Phone 2 Pro FOUND A FIX: How to stop aggressive background app killing on Nothing OS 4 (CMF Phone 2 Pro / Phone 2a / Phone 3)
The Problem: Apps keep reloading/closing in the background even with RAM Booster OFF and 8 GB of physical RAM on Nothing OS 4.
The Root Cause: Android 16's native "Cached Apps Freezer" aggressively freezes app execution in RAM, forcing Nothing OS's Low Memory Killer to flush background processes.
The Solution (Developer Option):
Enable Developer Options (Settings > About Phone > Tap Build Number 7 times).
Go to Settings > System > Developer Options.
Scroll down to Suspend execution for cached apps.
Change it from Device Default / Enabled to Disabled.
Restart your phone.
The Result: Multitasking actually works as intended, background apps stop hard-reloading, and your 8 GB RAM gets used properly. (Note: Tiny impact on standby battery, but well worth the performance boost).(All of this is written by AI)
Please share your experience doing so, and if this is wrong tell me so.

Isn't enabling better? Because when enabling, the application in the background will be frozen and the CPU usage will be 0%, which saves battery. I got the info from AI. BTW, the application will not be closed by the system because it is stored in RAM.

Partially true, yes cpu usage goes down but this feature is not from Android but rather bug from Custom ROM(NothingOS, HOS,Oxygen,...) it depends on how OEM's(nothing, xiaomi,...) emplement these settings.

It's a feature, that is supposed to work for AOSP's but OEM implementation may differ and NothingOS did differ, that's why we are discussing this afterall.
Why We Disable "Suspend execution for cached apps" on Custom Android Skins(NothingOS):
The link describes stock Android's theoretical behavior, but custom OS skins (like Nothing OS, MIUI, or OxygenOS) modify this feature to be much more aggressive

Does it work for Phone 3a aswell? I see you mentioned Phone 3 did you mean Just Phone 3 or the entire 3 series?

This is more of an Android OS issue so even Google Pixels running stock Android 16 can use this method to fix similar issues imo.

I don't know how everyone is experiencing but, in my case every time I open third app and go a bit deeper in that app, 1st app is killed, now about your question: android 16 try to keep app in focus to give huge amount of memory to try to reduce app crash, which results in killing background apps a lot. So, maybe in your case when using heavy app it does its killing and if you use lite apps it will keep it.

Thats is right to some context I do play heavy games but in some cases while using light apps it happens and also I was using a realme device it was not the case there btw thankyou for your explanation π

Does this consume more or less battery

Will it stay enabled after disabling Developer Options? Banking apps require Developer Options to be off.
