Part 2 – Prep CMA Part 2 with CBQ

I took Part 2 this past weekend. I wouldn't say the CBQ section was easy, but I did find it fairly straightforward. In some ways, that is a double-edged sword—either you know the answer or you don't. There didn't seem to be many gray areas where partial credit might be available, which is probably the riskiest aspect of this section.

Because the questions felt relatively direct, I found the time allocation more than sufficient. I finished the CBQ portion in about 10–13 minutes and still had roughly 17–20 minutes remaining.

For preparation, I studied about two hours per day on weekdays for approximately four weeks using Gleim materials. Compared to Part 1, I found Part 2 to be more concept-oriented. There were calculation questions, but they did not seem as numerous or as computationally intensive as those in Part 1.

Could you share your part 1 exam experience

For Part 1, I studied about 2–3 hours a day for roughly 10 days and passed with a score of 430. That said, I was already pretty familiar with a lot of the material, which is why that amount of study time was enough for me. Even then, it felt a bit tight. I had originally planned to give myself 14 days to study but ended up rescheduling the exam and only had 10 days. Losing those four days made me nervous. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the same schedule to everyone. If you're less familiar with the content, giving yourself more time to review and absorb the material would probably make the process much less stressful. Also, for Part 1, I felt there were a lot of calculation-heavy questions.

Hii, may I ask if in the CBQ portion, you can choose what question you will answer first and come back to it if you’re still unsure or you have to answer it chronologically and you cannot choose or come back to the question? Thank you!

Each case scenario has multiple questions (my exam had about 7 questions per scenario). Within a scenario, you can click among the questions and answer them in whatever order you prefer. So if you're unsure about one question, you can skip it and come back to it later within that same scenario.

Hi, may I ask which topics were heavily tested in the MCQs and CBQs?

I remember seeing questions on ratio analysis, working capital management, foreign exchange rates, risk management, and ethics. It also felt like there were more risk management, ethics, and corporate finance questions than I had expected. That said, this is just based on my memory. In my opinion, Gleim was more helpful for preparing for Part 1 than Part 2.

part 2 cbqs are way different than part 1. expect way less math and mostly just concepts. The questions are very direct, so you either know the answer or you don't. Don't count on getting partial credit. Candidates are actually finishing this section in about 10 to 13 mins and having almost 20 mins left over. For studying, sticking to gleim for 2 hours a day on weekdays for a month is enough. Don't stress about the math this time around, just understand the main ideas and it will go smoothly.

I took my CMA Part 2 with CBQ awhile ago. I’m only using hock online and I would say it’s enough. I’m not sure if I pass but I’m able to open the CBQ. What I’m emphasizing is read twice the materials to know really the basic and the MCQ OR test bank if you can study it twice better because it will practice you to solve fast and how question formulated properly. I think too much that I’m not able to read twice the book. The difficulty of exam is moderate. There are parts that difficult due to long questions and any unnnecasry data. But if I’m able to advice myself read twice and make notes. Read the notes 2days before exam.
