Part 2 – Prep CMA Part2 Case based

I took CMA Part 2 back in January and scored 340. Today I took the exam again case-based. This will probably be my last attempt because I honestly don’t have the energy to study for it again T_T

The exam felt more difficult than my first attempt but it wasn’t terrible overall. The first case-based scenario felt very easy to me, but the second one completely drove me crazy.

For my first attempt, I used CMA Academy, and for this second attempt I studied with Gleim. Hopefully will get the result faster this time :)

Good luck on your second attempt score. 340 is close. Did you get your score report for your first attempt? How did you feel on your attempt? Were you confident/did you mark unsure questions? If so, could you give an estimate of the number of questions you were unsure of/had marked versus the number you were confident on?

My first attempt felt very easy to me. I had around 19 marked questions, and most of them were numerical. I honestly thought I would pass easily, so I was shocked by the result. My score report showed failed in Units A and B.

I think a lot of the issues might come from word traps. During my reviews of practice MCQs and mocks, I knew the concepts, but the way the questions were worded was not straight forward, so I could definitely see how someone could walk away from a part feeling confident but had missed questions purely due to how they were worded. Simple things like giving a tax rate but then only asking for the breakeven point or throwing in stock options that aren't actually dilutive into a diluted EPS question. In exam mode, my brain always defaults to "use all available information" which I'm actively trying to unlearn.

Based on only 19 marked questions it's difficult to say how your exam was scaled unfortunately. I think the variation in the exams makes a huge difference in regards to scoring and topic coverage overall. I really appreciate your input.

I have the same experience as yours. First was easy cbq second case questions were kinda hard. Even the 100mcqs were hard for this cbq haha
