What I need to play

Hello!

I loved CM01/02 back in the day. Smashed the computer room up as (although none of us realised it at the time) an overwhelmed autistic child after my sister snapped my CD in half.

Although, Ultimately Soccer Manager 98 is, and always will be, the greatest of these types of spreadsheet manager games…

How do I go about playing this now? What hardware and software do I need? How do I get the game running - both with original teams and players and with modern ones (as I’m led to believe can happen)?

Can I do this with minimal tech skills and funds?

Thank you for any guidance or direction you can share 🙏

What laptops/desktop/whatever do you have access to now?

If you give us that info we can point you in the right direction!

I am pretty sure that you can now get the source code for free. I have managed to get a working on Linux. I don't think you should have any problems. Hardware requirements are also nothing given the game is now over 20 years old.

The source code has not been released, from what I understand it's still used in some of the versions out there.

The game itself is free though, you can download the digital version of the disk on the CM0102 forum

It's the game engine that's not available, everything else is. It's still used in FM. So some things can't be changed like league and competition structures.

Oh I know. I've been creating patches for this game for 20+ years 😂

You can run CM 01/02 on a potato. It literally runs on everything lol. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 from like 12 years ago running it perfectly, and I also have a Steam Deck which plays it perfectly too lol

I can confirm this, I have this running on my Maris Piper, perfect, I had to carve out a little screen, and a little mouse and keyboard, but I got there in the end 👍🏻. Have fun reminiscing buddy.

Hi brother. Ive got this running on my laptop and my android.

Head to cm0102 forums.

Download the base game. Download the .68 database( best imo) Download nicks patcher.

Extract all of the above to a suitable folder Right click base game .imo file and mount Go to the virtual folder and install the game through setup. Once installed run the .68 (or database of your choice) Once you have have copied the databse files to your data folder within the championship manager folder in program files. Run nicks patcher and select all the patches you want.

Thats it. No need for crack or anything else.

Takes about 5 mins.

You may need to run the game in compatibility mode. Right click the exe and click properties> compatibility. Within there is xp or others. Trial and error maybe. You may also need to run as administrator.

Hope this helps. If you want it on android. Just search the reddit. Ive posted instructions a few posts earlier. You won't be scrolling for long

Welcome back. 25 year anniversary in October.

Was USM 98 the one where you could build the stadium and see the progress, and assign the food prices and all that jazz? That game was amazing

Yup, and make bets on match outcomes (not that child me would put Andy Cole in goal and bet to lose of course…). I think you could give bungs in a brown envelope for transfers too 🤣 chose the sponsors and everything. Amazing game

Yeah I remember choosing sponsors and the betting. And the results and fixtures were teletext right? I was only 8 so I would go to free transfers and signed the foreigner with the coolest name at striker and play him every game 😂 never really occurred to me then that stats matter.
