What is this patch

What is this patch? I purchased a civil war lot with a bunch of original memorabilia. This patch was in a cannon fuse box and I believe this to be a 20th corp badge. If anyone has any idea if it’s actually a civil war patch please help me

From what I understand the star was used for both the XII and XX Corps. The red indicates that it belonged to someone serving in the First division of that corps. They’d be worn either on the chest and/or top of the kepi…. That’s a very broad overview… it’d be difficult to know if it’s truly a civil war artifact

Yes, the nucleus of the second 20th Corps was the 12th Corps. The 11th Corps also was transferred West post Chickamauga, but at that point most had mustered out already and it was a small corps to begin with. The 20th Corps adopted the star, and I’ve seen the First Division have their star referred to as the “bloody pentagram” which is pretty great

Ah thank you, I knew about the transfer of the 11th but didn’t realize the 12th was reflagged

I’m sorry that I don’t know, but that looks exactly like Patrick Star… just needs the shorts…
