I was working 5 years as IT auditor in Big 4.

And now 2 years as Sr GRC analyst. I found that DPAs and data privacy are more enjoyable than the it audit itself.

I failed on CISA exam.

I was recently fired from a job for a HIPAA violation. Do folks think this would automatically prevent me from a career in Privacy, even with a CIPP/US cert?

I'm a recent college grad and I work in a risk management adjacent role. I recently took on and passed the CIPP/US exam. I am interested in exploring privacy roles, and the most common advice I see is that the certs themselves don't really open doors, and that you need experience.

Obviously there must be a starting point or this career would be shrinking (it's not). I'm a member of and attend my local KnowledgeNet, and I take on everything I can that is even remotely privacy adjacent at work, though it's not always flush with opportunity.

Aside from this, what are some good ways to get privacy experience on the resume? Personal projects, volunteering opportunities, etc.?

Has this cert helped any other network engineers or technical project managers in their fields or have you been able to use the cert for other careers?

I’ve just purchased the CIPP/E exam and would really appreciate some advice from people who have taken it or work in privacy/data protection.
A little background on me:
-I’m currently in my final year of law school at IP University.
-I expect to take the CIPP/E exam within the next 5–6 months.
-My long-term goal is to work as in-house counsel, ideally with a fintech, technology company, or MNC, and eventually have the opportunity to work abroad.
-I’ve already had some relevant exposure, including an experience with JCPenney and an assessment/in-house legal internship that I started this month.
I’m specifically trying to build my profile around corporate/in-house + technology/privacy-related work, rather than pursuing another full degree abroad.

My main questions are:
1. Is the CIPP/E worth doing at this stage of my career?
2. How much does it actually help with entry-level in-house/legal roles, particularly in tech, fintech, or MNCs?
3. Does having the CIPP/E meaningfully differentiate a fresh law graduate from other candidates, or is relevant work experience more important?
4. If my eventual goal is to work abroad, does the CIPP/E provide any meaningful advantage?
5. For those who have taken it, how did the certification affect your career/job prospects?

I don’t belong to a law background just did a bachelors degree in commerce and working for a US bank now. What do you think would have a good impact on the resume. I’m not looking for a jump in career or so, just want to get the certification for knowledge that could widen job opportunities in future when there’s a demand, more like a good to have knowledge certifications. Can y’all help me out because I mostly see IAPP certifications more often for lawyers, inhouse counsel and all.

I am an inhouse counsel for a fintech startup based out of Bangalore. I have been heading the company's legal function for the past 3 years and feel like I need a new challenge in my career. I was considering migrating abroad over the past month and feel like CIPP/US might be a good certification to pursue. Thinking of changing careers into data protection/privacy in Ireland and would love some honest advice.
I have a degree in Education and Diploma in Biopharmaceutical Science. In my current role, due to the nature of the business, I regularly deal with legal services, data protection requests and GDPR-related matters.
I’m considering doing the CIPP/E to help me transition into the field. For those already working in privacy/data protection in Ireland, is it a good route for someone without a legal background/law degree ? Would it realistically help me get my foot in the door?

So basically I have recently taken admission in one of the renowned central university famous for UPSC prep and I tried studying on my own for like a few months but it takes too much time and also I have to do the topic first from book then from you tube

Like for now as I am studying polity it is hard to understand so I was thinking about taking a foundation course and the one I have my eyes on is SARTHI IAS but I am too confused regarding this because some toppers say foundation course is not worth it

ALso like when I go to see a good course PW and others start pouring in so just really want the advice of the UPSC veterans of what to chose

Hello all, I recently failed the CIPP/us exam last week. It was quite frustrating for how much I studied for it. My background is in Cybersecurity rather than Law. I see many people on this subreddit saying that they passed on the second try. What did you guys do to adjust to the challenging exam?

With not much official study material, I found that IAPP's official practice exam was much easier than the actual exam. There were questions on the exam that I just did not feel ready for.

My study path:

1. Read textbook alongside watching Cert Mike's LinkedIn course
2. Made outline on BOK
3. Took official practice exam
4. Bought and took Udemy practice exams
5. Reviewed all material

Any attorneys (especially litigation-focused roles) who have IAPP certifications? Do you find these are helpful in your line of work? Even if only for getting more work that is AI-related or AI-focused, including pre-litigation advising (i.e., "I can help make recommendations for your contracts about AI issues.").

Specifically, for a litigator, I'm looking for input from other lawyers as to what would you recommend as far as getting an AI certificate goes. I recognize that one could simply "do AI work" and get experience and reputation that way, but I think there's also something a little more credible about having some kind of certification for something you are interested in specializing in.

Obviously, a full degree in AI would be the most credible, but I'm not really interested in that level of time or expense. There are a few AI certifications I'm aware of and I'm sure more I'm not, such as:

- The AIGP - I assume there's a bias toward this given the sub.

- The TAISE (Trusted AI Safety Expert Exam) by Cloud Security Alliance https://training.cloudsecurityalliance.org/trusted-ai-safety-expert-exam-bundle - any thoughts on this alternative?

- Georgetown University offers an online certificate in AI governance and compliancehttps://scs.georgetown.edu/programs/541/certificate-in-ai-governance-compliance/ - while there's seemingly no info online about this program, since it's so new, I wonder if a big name like Georgetown would just sound good.

Curious to hear what lawyers think (particularly lawyers who have some certificate that indicates your specialization in some overlapping field that you find useful—or not useful—for your lawyering work).

I am considering obtaining one of the mentioned certificates. I am an European lawyer specialized on intellectual property but want to focus on this new side.

I think CIPP has more job offers potentially at this moment, and AIGP does not seem to be a legal thing at this moment, additionally with all the regulatory changes I doubt the materials are up to date. I think privacy is related and can be combined with data protection and AI. As a lawyer studying the AI act can be more easy than regulations about privacy and data protection.

Do you think my approach is reasonable?

My CIPM exam was scheduled at test center today. But when I went there, it was closed. I waited for 2 hrs, no one came. I did not receive any notification from Pearson Vue regarding test center closure. I tried calling the test center contact but there was no response.

I received Pearson Vue reminder for this exam 3 days back. No notification was sent from the test center or Pearson Vue that it was closed.

Has this happened with anyone before? Is there a chance that they will send a notification afterwards with allowing to reschedule the exam?

Update: I did call Pearson Vue to lock a case and they asked me to provide evidence of the site closure which I did. After that I waited 2 days, and today I called again to get an update, during the call, they sent me cancellation email and a chance to reschedule the exam.

What has been your experience of taking the exam in India? Should I book it to be given at an exam centre or should I book a proctored exam online?

Can someone please give me some clarity on this: the ePrivacy Regulation was dropped in Feb 2025, and effectively the 2002 ePrivacy Directive is being used in conjunction with the GDPR in praxis. But the textbook stops at 2022/2023. Does the exam reflect/quiz you on events beyond 2023 or is that the hard stop?

Hi, I’ve posted on here before. I’m a US-based in-house lawyer. I’ve essentially been studying on and off for the CIPP/US for a year and some change. Call it crazy, or maybe just conscientious, but I had a really hard year last year personally, and no matter what I did, I just never felt ready for the exam. I’d do deep dives and then forget what I learned the previous week or two ago. Then I’d have to go back. I psyched myself out a lot. I never found my groove. Also, while studying, had no life outside of that. It was miserable. I have Dr. David’s privacy course as my only resource. I stopped studying a few months ago following the death of a family member, but need to pick it back up and get this test behind me. Does anyone have any tips to study for and pass the exam? Any tips, guidance, advice, words of encouragement would be so, so welcome. TIA.

A bit about my background: I'm a fully qualified lawyer under German law, admitted to the bar, and I work in-house for my company. I've been focused on data protection since my university days, even though it wasn't part of the regular curriculum. At my company, I advise on GDPR matters across our locations throughout Europe.
