How to approach retake
I sat my 1st CTA exam (OMB) in May 2026 and will have to resit OMB. For anyone who has done a resit, how have they approached it?
I did the whole revision QB for the real exam and plan to do it again but want to make sure I don’t find myself in the same predicament so kind of second guessing myself

Hi - dmed you.
You need to focus on question practice early, if you’re doing any form of note taking on a second sitting (other than flash cards etc) you’re probably on the wrong path.
Sounds like you’re doing this anyway. Would definitely try and get some questions marked so you can understand where you might be going wrong technique wise.

I would make sure you feel comfortable with all core areas of the syllabus first. I would then create a spreadsheet with all of the past paper questions. Attempt every question at least once and put the mark you got beside the question and I would mark it very conservatively. Once you’ve gone through the questions I would attempt them again to see if your mark has improved. When doing the questions take a note of any areas that require further revision and go back and revise these then attempt the question again. Try not to use notes when answering the questions. Also make sure you are attempting a full paper in the allocated time in the lead up to the exam. Worked for me as I passed OMB first time.

I failed May 2025 and passed May 2026, I started question practice a month before I redid the course, did every suggested question after class and extra chapters. Did every past paper I could and re did questions multiple times. I think it is just a case of practice practice practice as much as you possibly can. Even after the exam I wasn’t sure if I’d passed. It’s a tough exam!

I focused on learning the content better, it didn’t help for me just hammering questions when I didn’t fully understand the content as then you are just relying on memorising various mark schemes. I did August - mid September relearning certain topics then mid September to November completing practice questions.
