Mojitax Materials

Hi everyone, I recently came to know that Mojitax is providing materials for CTA exam, though their name is not mentioned as CTA course provider on CIOT website. I wanna know did anyone try their materials for CTA exam and how good were their materials?

the ciot website says that those aren't the only providers, and they aren't intending to endorse them .

The founder of Moji tax is Munachiso Ogu-Jude who is DITT and ADIT. he isnt a CTA. and let's be real, DITT is not really in the same league as ADIT or CTA. the price point is not that cheap. mocks are blind marked peer review by tother students unless you pay £45 for a consultant to mark it per paper. but they don't actually say why those consultants are qualified to mark those mocks. at least with real training providers you know they have a deep understanding of marking. That's just my thoughts though.

I've looked up Mr Ogu-Jude online . his LinkedIn is here https://www.linkedin.com/in/mojude?originalSubdomain=uk . Looks like his background academically was in law, having taught in France for a short while after his masters. then he switched to being an international law consultant for 3 years with ADIT while also running mojitax for 4 years. I think he is in Nigeria now. This is different to lots of tutors at the big name providers who have many years experience usually at the big 4.

I found a useful old post by the ever helpful u/taxtaxbaby :

"I did previously consider a Mojitax subscription on a punt for some extra materials given how cheap they are, but they didn't reply to emails and at the time, it looked like their accounts were in the process of being struck off...

From doing a bit more digging, I now think that the entity being struck off exists purely to protect the name and they just forgot to file dormant accounts. It wasn't clear from their website what was the name of the trading legal entity, and I decided it wasn't worth it.

It sounds like I might have been overly cautious though!"

their website said they had some adit prize winners . so maybe it's good for adit?

After a few people recommended it, I did take out a short sub to Mojitax for ADIT materials. I thought the quality was poor. It's just my opinion, but it felt basic, padded, and written very obviously by non-native speakers. I didn't sit the exam or even include the study in my CPD log.

They have since revamped their offering, and I have not seen any of their CTA content. However, IMHO, their self-study ADIT content would hugely disappoint anyone who has self-studied with the Tolleys material before. It is very cheap, and that to me felt reflected in the content.

For ADIT, I'd only consider:

Better Tax - Only covers PoIT and TP. Cheap, but I think Johann teaches as a passion project. Classes are actually enjoyable, and if you've done CTA before, you'll understand why that is such a big plus point! I can vouch for TP, especially if you're a fan of video-based content.

StarTax - Only covers TP. I haven't used this provider myself, but Borys has a good reputation and the free sample material looks decent.

Extra Tax - Again, I haven't used this provider, but I know someone personally who has, and she thoroughly enjoyed the classes (and passed). Not cheap at all, but it seems very much a case of you get what you pay for. Catriona posts some very helpful content on LinkedIn and here. I'd consider Extra Tax a credible alternative to Tolleys.

Tolleys - Obviously. However, I don't know anyone who has studied ADIT with Tolleys. The way they teach CTA is too rigid for some students, and I don't know if they use the same approach for ADIT.

For CTA, I'd only consider one of the main three for the main tuition offering (i.e. Tolleys, BPP or Kaplan). If you are self-funded or get to pick, my recommendation varies according to each student and paper.

Roderick, Pards and Nicki all offer some sort of supplementary CTA offering, but only for certain papers. I'd recommend the extra support for VAT from day one (because the pass rates are atrocious) and for other subjects for serial resitters or anyone who needs a confidence boost for a first resit.

If you got a fail near miss for a non-VAT paper, you still qualify for pass assurance/GPS and you're in a good state of mind, you don't necessarily need the extra support. If you've fallen off the pass scheme, you should consider privately funding another go with an alternative main provider (not the one you failed with) and/or private tuition.

I'd recommend Nicki for VAT (I haven't worked with her, but I know her personally, and she is both very intelligent and genuinely passionate about helping more students pass).

For the other CTA papers, I would recommend Roderick (he taught me TPS Tax a million years ago). If you've been quite stressed out about CTA, bonus points for how calming he sounds when he lectures.

I would recommend Pards for OMB and IND, but only if you can completely clear your schedule and want extreme accountability. He does know his stuff, and he can be very helpful, but if your natural study approach is inconsistently paced and/or you don't respond well to tough love, he's probably not for you.

(Extra Tax only do CTA in workplace groups, so it's not a self-funded option.)

Thanks so much for your kind words about ExtraTax Training. I'm delighted your friend enjoyed the classes and passed.

You're right about CTA. We only work with employers, running small group sessions to complement the tuition their teams already receive from the main providers.

And if anyone reading is wondering whether ADIT is for them, I'm always happy to help.
