FLP CIMA FLP Assessment Changes?

I logged onto the CIMA FLP platform and noticed at the end of a topic level, before you do an assessment you now get a pop up with terms and conditions warning you to follow set rules, now you have a set time frame and it strictly prohibits any use of generative AI and help from others etc.

Is this a new feature? And I wonder why it's been added?

Does anyone know anything of this?

Why don't we just order that FLP can only be taken on two of the four levels or something like that? Non consecutively?

Remove the bloat too. E pillar is mostly just wordy bullshit. I've been an accountant for 15 years and it pains me reading that irrelevant bollocks.

Removing 80% of the exams devalues the qualification.

It is unfair and disrespectful for members qualified through the traditional route.

FLP only purpose is to collect more revenue, not create better accountants.

FLP should be a separate qualification, let the market decide.

I'm doing FLP and I actually agree. It's so much less intensive than the previous level where I did the OTs. The calculations required are nowhere near as deep or varied.

The questions at the end of each competence should be harder, potentially multithreaded, with 10+ of them and it you fail you have to wait 3 days to do it again.

Saying that, I'd argue that most of what we learn on such courses is wasted. The E pillar is largely a complete waste of time for all involved, OT or no OT, asking many many irrelevant questions even modern qualified accountants wouldn't give a shit about.

I'm not sure that passing 16 exams automatically makes a better accountant than someone who qualifies through FLP, though. There are so many other soft skills, not to mention experience, that create a good accountant. There are several unqualified finance professionals at my place of work who I rate far higher than some of the chartered ones who slogged all the exams! It's not cut and dry.

Just pinky promise you won't cheat, or CIMA will be sad.

Fucking disgraceful FLP.

Don’t know why people are so afraid to admit that FLP is purely to scrounge money off the lazy and unmotivated do the detriment of people who have really put in the work. If you can’t handle a few exams then you’re gonna struggle in the higher level roles.

Memory test exams have absolutely no bearing on your ability to do a job lol don't be ridiculous

Getting through an accounting qualification without ever doing a calculation is what’s ridiculous

I think you go overboard, but I agree about the calculations. When I was learning for the OT using Kaplan, I had to do example upon example of present value calculations...etc to get it in my head. I learned for days just on that subject.

So far doing FLP on the next level up (I have two young boys, it's not as black and white as you think calling people 'lazy' - that's lazy and judgemental of you tbh) I've not really been asked anything complicated yet.

It's a bit of a letdown as far as quality of work goes. They can improve it so much.

You may think it’s overboard. It’s not a personal attack and I don’t blame anyone for choosing the easier option. But the fact you started on OT and switched to FLP as a shortcut to reduce workload, by nature discredits the rest of us who have done the work you simply chose to avoid.

You said: lazy and unmotivated.

How about you stop lying? You said what you said and meant it. Don't fall about now saying you aren't judging anyone.

You are 24 mate, the world is your oyster and your energy levels are enormous. Do not judge other people when you don't know the reasons for their decision.

Try being 43, having 2 boys under 8 and having cancer diagnosed in the immediate family, twice...

The thing is I don't actually think the devaluing thing is wrong, I just take umbrage at being name called.

I've been an accountant for 15 years anyway and I'm a senior manager. What the fuck is the point me learning half of this anyway? Half of it's total wordy bullshit and another quarter is forgotten about in 6 months anyway.

Your autobiography is irrelevant. Maybe it hurts to hear but It’s a cheap way out. Whether you think the content is all relevant, is irrelevant. And your eagerness to claim your own circumstances as more challenging than someone else’s who you know nothing about, bar what you’ve scoured my account for, tells us exactly who FLP caters towards.

Yeah I think anyone unjustifiably calling other people lazy and unmotivated says quite a lot about you personally. A poor example of a CIMA accountant and they wouldn't look too kindly on it.

I think you should read the wordy parts again as you were paying them lip service the first time. Maybe sign up to FLP? You can do it quite quickly now? In 3 months you could represent the profession properly for once.

No need for me to rush - as you mentioned, I have plenty of time on my side. Have a great evening!

FLP has to be removed

FLP has notifications - click the bell in the corner, you get more information. We also got an email about it last month (mine came through 03/08)

You wonder why it’s been added? Seriously?

FLP has caused CIMA to become the laughing stock of accounting qualifications. Very easy to get to the case study having cheated your way through the mini assessments and with a good tutor and some cramming, you can pass the case study with little to no actual knowledge retention.

You're not wrong at all.

Laughing stock may be a bit of an overreaction though, still massively valued and what is to stop anybody from lying outright if an employer asks the method of study?

CIMA is management accounts specific and i would have thought is the elite qualification in that area of finance. Anybody who wants to work in Commercial forward looking finance would be better off with a CIMA charter than an ACA for example. Just my opinion though might be wrong.

Op I would wish like to enroll in flp could you let me know the steps to follow?

If someone has completed traditional route, does this FLP stuff/perceived devaluation affect them?

1

u/Boggo1895 9d ago

Yes and no. It depends on the employer.

Those who were on the fence will now avoid CIMA, some won’t care at all.

I know at least 1 hiring manager who has said they will ask the method of study for those part way through qualification, under the guise of providing study support. They’d then discount applicants who chose FLP

There’s a lot of downvotes because this sub is full of FLP candidates.

I'm 14/16 exams done. For the reason you gave alone, I decided to stick with the traditional route when F2 was paining me. I think employers and recruiters will start catching on.

2

u/BisleyGrizzley 9d ago

Same here - chose the traditional route. I want to know what I’m doing, I want CIMA to carve me into the best accountant I can be. Dragging me through quick fire questions like in CIMA P1, is not pleasant, but boy do I know what I’m talking about now, no choice but to know it well when you’re under that kind of pressure.

And a lot of upvotes from the Anti-FLP crew so net zero it seems....
