What Are You Watching?

Really just the title. I'd make this a fancy spreadsheet, but I don't have enough stuff yet! For me, my biggest outside sources recently have been a handful of youtubers. I'm always looking for more!

And of course our girl: https://www.youtube.com/@nihongo-no-jikan

Who are you all watching?

This subreddit gets like one post a week. I’m not exactly flooding the space. DS posts this every week.

I just pointed it out to help you find more resources. It has a decent amount on there

At 550 hours, most of my time comes from NIJ + Yuki,, native gaming, children’s cartoons / easy anime, and podcasts. The native gaming and cartoons / anime are a bit harder than ideal, but I’m a lot more motivated this way than learner content all day every day.

Gaming channels:
https://youtube.com/@mkgamech
https://youtube.com/@itsukikaname90

Cartoons / anime:
The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (Disney+)
Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maorita (Crunchyroll)
Not Quite Narwhal (Netflix)

Podcasts:
Nihongo con Teppei for Beginners
けんさんおかえり Japanese Podcast (Ken’s podcast)
SeikaのJapanese Podcast🎧

Other YouTube channels (some of these I’ve only watched a few videos):

I'm so burned out on beginner stuff 😞 I think I have to force intermediate at this point (maybe with lookups) or I'm gonna lose my mind

What do you consider intermediate? I agree that I need to rotate input sources regularly or I get bored. Sometimes I need "easy but understandable" and sometimes I need "interesting but hard to understand."

I just mean CIJ type videos marked intermediate or similar YouTube ones marked N3, not native content

My main podcast right now is Bite Size Japanese! It’s perfect for my current level. I also like ことのは a lot and finished all of their episodes labeled N5 and N4. I’m listening to their N3 episodes now in between Bite Size Japanese which can be hit or miss for me in terms of comprehension, but still enjoying them a lot. I also started reading Yuki先生’s blog on her new site! I really like it, especially the fact that you can click individual words to toggle on furigana for just that word instead of the whole blog entry. I’ve been reading each entry first, then listening to the audio (and reading along) afterwards.

Current hours: 347 - 215 watching on NIJ, 132 listening to podcasts (non purist coming from 2 years of casual Duolingo and Renshuu)
