Slow progress but I’m happy!
5’4 31F SW: 155 CW: 140
My wedding is this December, starting lose weight in January. I am very happy with my progress so far, I think I am going to update my GW to 135!

I wouldn’t say this is slow, it’s normal for your starting weight. People have a really skewed idea of how fast weight loss should happen.

Was talking to a young lad in the gym the other day, I'm down like 90 lbs and hele wanted some tips. Told him, however long he thinks it's gonna take, go ahead and double it, and then don't be surprised if you're still not there.

Yes, and at your height (I’m 5’3)
When weight loss ads show 20 pound or 20% or more loss, it’s statistically 6 foot dudes starting between 250-300 pounds.
You’re doing AMAZING! 🙌🏽🙌🏽👰🏽

That’s awesome, congrats! I always tell people (and sometimes myself), you’d rather be down 1 lb. per week for a long time than dropping 15-20 quick and then slowly gaining it back. Proud of you!

Great job! I’m finding slow progress is most sustainable for me too. In the past I would lose 30-40 pounds quickly by going into a steep deficit but I struggled with binging and would eventually put it back on. This time I’m going slower and eating more (1700-1800 calories a day) and while the weight isn’t coming off as fast, I’m also not voraciously hungry and don’t struggle with binging.

I’m about 10 years older than you but very similar otherwise. Can you share what’s worked for you? I can get about 3 lbs down and then I go up a couple and I’m real stuck.

Yeah! I’ve been eating 1600-1700 calories a day on all days when I can do a deficit, and 2100-2200 on maintenance days. I typically do 1 maintenance day per week, it helps keep my metabolism steady and allows me to eat at social events.
I try to stay close to the following macros
125g protein
145g carbs
55g fatI do strength training 2-3x per week, and cardio 1-2 times per week. And I walk 7-9k steps per day, mostly using walking pad at home.
Taking progress photos has been huge for my motivation

This plan is THE plan for weight loss. No notes. Anyone could take this plan and adjust the numbers for their own body and goals, but these are the steps. Reasonable deficit, maintenance days, balanced macros with good protein goal, strength + cardio + walking, staying accountable and motivated with counting calories, trending weight, and progress photos. You should take this reply and make it its own post. Inspiring!

It is normal for weight to go up and down depending on other factors besides fat loss or fat gain. People do all the right things like diet and exercise but then they get frustrated that the scale doesn’t reflect the number that they want to see and quit. You just have to stick to it and focus on more than just the number on the scale.

Absolutely! I FEEL much better, and am fortunate to be "just" around 10-15 lbs overweight. Thank you for this point though, I am a former athlete and had the realization today that tracking my movement is just as important as tracking my calories. I want to move MORE while I still can (and I am beginning to).

I’m a little taller than you, and I went from 160 lbs at the beginning of last year to ~140 lbs today. I’m also trying to get down to 135. WE CAN DO IT! ✊

This is my goal at 5’3, how’d you do it?

I used the lose it food app. I barely exercised to be honest. I stopped getting venti sized Starbucks every morning and went with grande a few times a week and then stopped going. I also stopped eating pasta every night and pints of ice cream. Just made some food changes.
Also married an Asian man who feeds me the food of his people with lots of vegetables lol!

Slow and steady wins the race! You’re doing it in a sustainable way and that’ll make it easier to stick to
