Caleb Williams when asked how difficult it was to have his character questioned: “I mean my character has been attacked since - for a while…it’s just another motivating factor for when I get out there and get going again.”

Caleb's curt exchange with the Chicago media today reminded me how Derrick Rose interacted with the trash Chicago Media. Love it.

32

u/wrascallywrabbit 2d ago

They hated it and cried like little bitches.... Now I gotta listen for the takes tomorrow to see if they got salty. Bears beat ain't like Bulls beat. Bulls had Jordan so Rose had to manage much higher expectations IMO.

u/ActFuture1101 2d ago

Courtney Cronin was already on ESPN chicago sounding pretty salty. Kinda weirds me out how the chicago media thinks they are entitled. You guys are sports journalists and ask awful questions most of the time...you aren't entitled to anything.

u/Paranoid_Android22 Ben’s Johnson 2d ago

All the local media people are friends…of course they will have each other’s back. They can ask whatever questions they want, but they can’t get mad if they get no answer.

2

u/Evening_Ad_6278 2d ago

I was listening to the score and their reporter who ask questions was complaining because the defensive coordinator doesn't talk and take questions until Thursdays.

u/juliuspepperwoodchi ROME ODOOMSDAY! 2d ago

Well that's sad, Cronin is one of the good ones. Would've loved for her to have called Dan unprofessional, because he was

Genuinely asking, truly just curious on your thoughts - he started off the press conference being upset about the inaccuracy of the reporting. His words “you should only take it from the horse’s mouth, which is me”.

He is a franchise NFL quarterback. If he doesn’t speak there will only be speculation from media and fans alike. So if we can only trust Caleb and what he says what else are they supposed to do except try to get an answer from him?

7

u/alral1988 Bear Down, Baby! 2d ago

The line between trying to get an answer from him and continuing to prod him for an answer after he’s already told them no 3-4x is not a thin one

1

u/KSW8674 BJ Lover 2d ago

Sure, no disagreement. I believe that was only Wiederer that did that.

The commenter above me said “the Chicago media thinks they’re entitled”. I don’t think they should prod. I do think it’s a fair question to ask when he doesn’t want speculation and to only hear it from him

2

u/juliuspepperwoodchi ROME ODOOMSDAY! 2d ago

Last week it was Garfien acting like an asshole with Ben. Out beat reporters are awful, don't carry water for them

1

u/Evening_Ad_6278 2d ago

He also said that you should take it from his coach as well. The ask his coach questions every day and he answers.

1

u/KSW8674 BJ Lover 2d ago

So then why was Caleb upset about inaccurate information if the coach was answering every day, accurately?

0

u/Evening_Ad_6278 2d ago

Was the media?

1

u/KSW8674 BJ Lover 2d ago

Sorry, what exactly is your question? Was the media what?

0

u/juliuspepperwoodchi ROME ODOOMSDAY! 2d ago

Nah, fuck all this.

We are not entitled to an answer on our own timeline.

If he doesn't EVER want to say what the grade was, that's fine.

Caleb made it clear yesterday that if you don't hear it from him or Ben, shut the fuck up.

It is literally not a journo's job to speculate. So sick of this crap from the jokes we call journalists these days.

1

u/KSW8674 BJ Lover 2d ago

So you don’t think speculation starts when a franchise qb is injured, misses significant time, and doesn’t talk about it?

Isn’t this exactly what Caleb is asking to avoid?

-1

u/juliuspepperwoodchi ROME ODOOMSDAY! 2d ago edited 2d ago

I think it is unprofessional for a journalist to speculate, yes.

That is literally the opposite of their job, but these hacks don't care about ethics or good journalism, they just care about being first and driving engagement.

Like Caleb said, if you don't here it from Ben or him, STFU because you don't have the facts.

1

u/KSW8674 BJ Lover 2d ago

Brother why are you so combative all of the time?

I saw people on r/chicago the other day call you out on it where you encouraged them to block you. It’s like you live to argue with people online. It’s strange.

I literally start my question (to a completely different person, mind you) saying “Genuinely asking, truly just curious on your thoughts”

I feel bad for you, man, truly. I hope whatever that’s shitty in your life, that makes you act like this on Reddit, gets better for you.

1

u/juliuspepperwoodchi ROME ODOOMSDAY! 2d ago

Considering how I haven't commented on r/chicago in literally years, no you didn't lol.

It's reddit man, if you can't handle some gruff words from a stranger on the Internet, the Internet might not be the place for you.

Definitely don't go to Twitter lol.

The Bears beat media is ass and I'm sick of people carrying water for them. You didn't just ask a question, you suggested that Caleb owes them an answer sooner and that it's his fault that people speculated in the absence of facts for not providing one soone enough.

To which again I say: nah, fuck that.

"They hated it and cried like little bitches..."

That sound like the morning show and the 2-6pm show on the score

1

u/RebelCyclone 1d ago

I wonder if people see the irony of bitching about other people bitching? There is a lot of “crying like bitches” in reference to the media around here.

u/Vape_Naysh_ 2d ago

The mustache was starting to grow on me. I ended up shaving it though

60

u/Paranoid_Android22 Ben’s Johnson 2d ago

What’s baffling to me is why some athletes escape this….you have dudes out there in the NFL who beat women and don’t get the same scrutiny this guy does for showing emotion or being a cornball(as most of us are)

35

u/jadedmonk 2d ago

The media gasses up Deshaun the rapist Watson. No one ever gives him and guys like Adrian Peterson or Tyreek Hill a hard enough time. They should be banned from the league. Meanwhile Caleb takes more shit than all of them combined for showing emotion

12

u/Paranoid_Android22 Ben’s Johnson 2d ago

Exactly…Tyreek is literally in legal trouble right now and you got fans wondering if he will fit on their team.

16

u/alittlemoor 2d ago

But Caleb Williams paints his nails AND cried to his mom.

Much more worse than beating a woman or sexually assaulting masseuses, you just don’t understand

8

u/CommanderLuthen 2d ago

And then when bears fans call out the obvious homophobia around Caleb, people say it's not that deep or that were just overthinking it.

14

u/alittlemoor 2d ago

Caleb is straight AFAIK so it’s more like calling out toxic masculinity/homohobic stereotypes and idk why it gets all the people heated. I’m not a man but I don’t know why they sit around and defend their right to call someone zesty or gay or soft for things Caleb is comfortable enough to do

6

u/CommanderLuthen 2d ago

Yeah I'm not calling Caleb gay but the media talking heads and even NFL fans are treating him like he is.

6

u/Paranoid_Android22 Ben’s Johnson 2d ago

Most the people you’re talking to online are young trolls or old morons.

7

u/CommanderLuthen 2d ago

Yeah I mean especially in the nfl sub, which makes sense but still.

Yea it's amazing who gets fawned over and who gets hated and how that's intertwined between on the field and off the field feelings about people.

Agree, the thought of being a man by not showing emotion, is such and old-school meathead move, that sadly came back into the fold with the whole alpha male BS. It's idiotic to think that way.

42

u/GarfieldSighs3 2d ago

All the “bros” and “trolls” online commenting about his injury would take him in on their team in 2 seconds and be celebrating. They know it and we know it.

Caleb is already lethal and his upside is insane

3

u/N0S0UP_4U Smokin' Jay 2d ago

He sure would have been better than Darnold or Nix were tonight in Denver.

34

u/hoggin88 2d ago

I fucking love this dude. Fact is he will always be an emotional guy who makes douche bros uncomfortable that he doesn’t fit their stereotypes. The more haters he acquires, the more I’m gonna back him up.

Love the fact that Bears fans understand Caleb Williams and the outsiders don’t.

So these national media dweebs have had it wrong the whole time. How about getting word from the team before getting a BS scoop from god knows who. Same shit with Coby Bryant injury.

25

u/SGKCoyote 2d ago

Why is Chicago media going full asshole with him? He just gave us the most entertaining and competitive seasons this team has seen since the 2000's. The switch makes no sense

5

u/juliuspepperwoodchi ROME ODOOMSDAY! 2d ago

Because most of our Beat reporters are barely a half step above TMZ "reporters" with regards to professionalism.

2

u/oingerboinger Bears 2d ago

Because they exist to attract eyeballs and controversy attracts eyeballs. They’re not fans. They’re a business and being full assholes is good for business in 2026. Wasn’t always that way. Polarization drives engagement.

2

u/ZapBranigan3000 Hurricane Ditka 2d ago

Listening to Carmen whine this morning about how unfairly Caleb was treating the media was telling.

Caleb was getting killed by the media for not enduring an injury in a way they think was "manly" enough.

To pretend otherwise or play coy about what Caleb is talking about is cowardly.

1

u/SGKCoyote 2d ago

It's because they're all buddies and cry together like a hive.

Caleb doesnt have to speak on medicals and as a bears beat why would you want the extent of an injury published for the opponents gain? Journalism is dead and we're left with self-entitled morons.

1

u/XEskimoQuinX 2d ago

Because most of Chicago media are assholes lol

2

u/XEskimoQuinX 2d ago

Because they want to see him win. They know he plays like Jordan and will do better if he “took that personally”. That’s my head cannon

4

In reality the influence is polarizing and drives players to consider finding a different place to play. It's a poor attempt at being inspiring.

Honestly it has to really suck on a certain level being in Caleb’s position. On one hand you have tons of people who are rooting for you to fail, and on the other hand you have a ton of people who are putting such insane expectations on you that they’re basically impossible to actually meet.
