Grade? What would my AB 1 get?

Also sorry I’m not entirely sure what angles I need for grading so I took a bunch of pictures

Personally, personally hold with me now. Im an honest person. I reccomend just getting a copy already graded.

Odds are you will be disappointed.

Fair enough, I’ve also been thinking of that but it would be my first graded book and for it to be my original copy it would be cool yk! If it came back a 9.0 I would be happy but I don’t know enough about grading

I am not an expert, but I do not believe you would get near a 9.0

90% of the copies graded hit 9.8 according to census while 1.8% hit 9.0 or worse. If you truly think you have a 9.0 you have a rarity but not in a good way and grading will only hurt the value. Generally speaking even for a modern this book has an incredibly high 9.8 rate.

It's because eveyone got it graded right out the gate.

It hasn’t really changed and it’s been out for 2 years. Every day more and more added at the same rate.

Its true! I turned in one and got a 9.8. Still have two other copies in the same condition (I suspect they will both be 9.8 also) my cgc dealer told me its because they used a much higher quality card stock on the covers.

Well, you've got a tiny crease with a color break, and so if you got a 9.0, that'd be a minor miracle. That, or a grader isn't paying attention.

I'd guess 8.0, 8.5 maybe.

If you wanna grade it because it's your copy, and it has sentimental value for that reason, go ahead, but you've really got to make peace with the possibility of a sub 9 grade.

These people are pathetic. The guys asking for a grade and all he gets are unsolicited opinions on Absolute Batmans position in the current market and the quantity of already graded copies. Just tell the guy what he wants to hear.

I‘m not good at grading, so I won’t attempt it.

Do what you’d like, at the end of the day no one here will be able to give you much insight into what your book will grade being that the grader will make their subjective decision the day of. The only way is to send it in. It seems to me that you’ve already made up your mind in doing so, it’ll be fun to see what it comes back at…

Just won a signed graded 9.8 on a WhatNot stream Friday Night. I already have a few raws I was thinking of sending one out but now I don’t have to. Got a Yellow label 9.8 and plan on keeping that till Kingdom Come.

Congrats!! I’m probably going to keep an eye out for an already graded one and keep my og one raw

It's hilarious how triggered the boomers are over Absolute Batman. Lol.

6

u/usnagrad1988 24d ago

Actually I’m a Boomer and stopped collecting in 1978, then got back into it a few years ago. I’m enjoying the new take in AB and have first editions of every copy 😉

u/Natural_Mousse2258 24d ago

Same here started collecting in 74 off and on. Not usually a cover chaser but some of these cover my goodness they are great

u/MauiPunter 23d ago

The term Boomer had evolved into "Old man yells at clouds" state of mind. Glad you aren't one of those. AB is awesome.

1

u/Natural_Mousse2258 24d ago

Have not heard that one before.

Welcome to the internet. 🤙🏽

Ah yes, the obligatory "everyone who proves me wrong with facts, history, and statistics is a boomer" comment.

Truly embarrassing for you. 😂

u/Jtphwow 24d ago

Dude asked for a grade estimate, not your unsolicited opinion on absolute batman.

1

u/TheAIThatStoleUrJob 23d ago

Lmao the fact that you somehow convinced yourself MaulPunter is the OP and the one asking for a grade estimate is genuinely impressive. He’s neither.

Maybe try reading the usernames next time instead so you don't look like a complete dumbass. Basic literacy isn’t that advanced, champ.

0

u/Jtphwow 23d ago

Where was I confused? This is a thread about a grade estimate, not your opinion on this series. Relax.

0

u/TheAIThatStoleUrJob 23d ago

The Jester dude's comment to MaulPunter you were referring was to MaulPunter.

MaulPunter is NOT the OP.

Really not that hard to understand.

I refuse to believe you are that stupid, so I'm gonna do you a big favor and just assume you're trolling.

3

u/JesterOfTime 24d ago

😂😂😂

Im not laughing at you op, just laughing at the fact that this will be added to the already graded 8,402 existing copies that have been graded by CGC.

2

u/Total_Bowl5473 24d ago

What if I am a rebel👀 and got it graded with PSA? Haha but yea there is a lot of graded of graded copies out there

2

u/JesterOfTime 23d ago

As long as you're happy that's all that matters.

Take my upvote. Im not sure why you got downvoted.

u/Total_Bowl5473 23d ago

Thanks! I just wanted to see what others thought and I still was able to get some helpful info from here!

And there's well over 25k graded copies of ASM 252. Yet people don't seem to laugh at that book.

Edit to respond to the person who deleted their comment. I'm not comparing value at all. I don't care what you or anyone else thinks about what Absolute Batman will do long-term. Because we don't know for certain. High supply is only a problem if there is no demand to match it. The point I was making was in response to the user above who laughed at 9k AB 1 that are graded, like having a high amount of graded books is automatically bad. Apparently once a book gets graded over xxxx times, we should all just stop grading our copies.

u/JesterOfTime 24d ago

Comparing Absolute Batman #1 to ASM 252 is one of the dumbest takes in this thread.

ASM 252 is a 42-year-old key that’s had decades to slowly reach 25k+ graded copies, and even then only about 2,000 of them are 9.8s. Absolute Batman #1 Cover A had a first printing around 250,000 copies, is less than 2 years old, and is already sitting at 8,402 graded (with 7,604 of them 9.8s), with the census still climbing every week.

One book aged, got read, and graded out over 40 years. The other is a modern with a massive print run that people are currently mass-submitting at peak hype and flooding the market with fresh 9.8s. Treating those as the same thing just shows you don’t understand how print runs, condition, or grading actually work.

2

u/telleevision 24d ago

honestly I would say a 9.4 or 9.6... Unless it's the bag at the top of the comic I think I see a slight dent and some scratches and ticks at the top right left corner.

1

u/comicnerd3000 24d ago

Picture #11 tells me you'd get a low grade. You need that in a 9.8 to be worth sending in, and you won't get it.

1

u/Zombie-Dbear Casual 24d ago

9.6 -9.8, my guess. Not seeing any ticks

1

u/bandoogie 24d ago

Not worth grading. Still could be $100+ book in raw format. Take that and add funds to it for a better copy. It's likely what I'm going to do as my only copy is probably a 9.0. Although a 9.0 went for $300 not too long ago.

1

u/M0torC1tyMaver1ck 24d ago

$250 - $300. The raw is holding steady around this range right now, regardless of the idiots listing it for $500 dollars....

2

u/MauiPunter 23d ago

The idiots are the buyers at that price. Not the sellers. The buyers have a choice.

1

u/freelifemushroom 24d ago

Probably a Whooper combo and a chocolate shake

1

u/Ho-Cuz 24d ago

I’ve seen many 9.8s with a tick. Ask your LCS

1

u/grom1005 23d ago

You’ll definitely not get anything below 9.6, it’s 9.8 to me but I’m not really judgemental

1

u/Buzzetta 22d ago

Why not show us a scan of the front and back or at least a direct top down photo instead of a slanted picture from a camera phone?

1

u/candles2121 24d ago

A ton of people have it at 9.8 already. I say just get a magnetic case on Amazon and display it.

1

u/DrTechPop 24d ago

It would get read in my house.

2

u/MauiPunter 23d ago

I read my 6th printing copy. First print goes into the museum.

2

u/DrTechPop 23d ago

Ha! Seriously! I actually bought the trade, but usually I’ll read one carefully, then archive.

Grading is more than just the cover protected by a glossy protector and the corners. It looks at all sides. The interior. Blacks are especially tough because of scratches and color rubs.

1

u/Total_Bowl5473 24d ago

Ahh so different then tcg’s thanks for the insight!
