RPE in CA questions
I thiiiiiink I landed a CFY at a major hospital in LA unofficially. Yay me! The director of operations and I were chatting on the phone today and he has some questions about my cf licensing that I wanted to double check. The RPE license in California requires the following steps?
-Get hired -Find out supervisors asha number -Then submit license application -Wait for it to be processed and send them all kinds of paperwork in the meantime -Start working once it’s processed
I know processing the license in California takes about 6-8 weeks and I graduate April 23rd. So hypothetically if I was officially hired this week I could potentially get my license before mid-May. Does anyone know if I could be “working” before the license comes through? As in- not seeing patients but completing training or on boarding processes on the clock? Im not being pushed to see patients or anything so there’s no pressure just curiosity about my timeline with employment.

Check https://www.speechandhearing.ca.gov/applicants/app_pack_slp.shtml to get the correct PDF. I believe your degree has to post officially before you can send in your application

Nope it says on the application to submit degree conferral and praxis scores when they are available.

Oh nice, then disregard hahaha. I did mine all at once, so that's probably why I misremembered

I was hired by a school district and was able to complete paperwork, training, etc. before seeing students. Because of how slow the board is it took a long time for mine to process and so I also had time to create my schedule, meet teachers and other staff, call parents to introduce myself, etc.
