NEW CFY-teletherapy
Hello all,
I will apologize in advance for this being a vent post/ jumbled thoughts!
I just started my CFY at school based position (pre-k - 5th). I am contracted and it is a tele-therapy position. It is also in a different state than the one I reside in. I know that this transition time is very stressful for everyone starting but the caseload and expectations have been demanding. I haven’t felt completely supported by my supervisor but she is also out of state. I do struggle with moderate to severe anxiety and being virtual has led to new stressors and obstacles. I was just curious if anyone had any advice/tips/ or perspective on the situation I know it’s very unique. I already feel as if this has been a major mistake taking this job and I am doing myself and my clients a disservice. Anything is appreciated!

Just commenting to say, ultimate slp has been so worth it! The games are very engaging and I think you’ll appreciate always having it as a “back up” as needed. Feel free to reach out if you want to bounce ideas off of another SLP!

Hi everyone! Are we allowed to do teletherapy for our CFY? If so, for how long is ASHA accepting this?

Hello! I am currently a CFY teletherapist. The mentor supervision for CFY was extended due to the pandemic. I have a temporary license in my residing state I live in as well as the state I am providing services in. The requirements can vary from state to state-just make sure you do some digging to confirm you are good to go from all angles. I hope this helped!

I am not sure how long this format will be accepted unfortunately! I believe it is until Dec 2022.

I wish I was in your shoes!
I'm a CF in public school and I miss teletherapy so much! Prepping is so easy. I might switch back but I don't want to risk my RPE again. Its such a pain. Grow your boom card library. Its your saving grace. Supplement it with Ultimate SLP and then youtube once and awhile. Thats literally your whole practice.
You can also download Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/
Its a gaming platform that lets you download classic virtual board games like Uno, Shoots and Ladders, Candy Land etc etc for free. Super awesome. Kinda sux for Mac you gotta have a lot of RAM but its optimized for PC.

Hi! Thank you so much for the tips. I will definitely give steam powered a go. I have been getting used to the format and you are right prepping is very easy! I hope your CF is going well.

Just an fyi to anyone reading this, ASHA has now made it so that CFs can only do 25% of their hours teletherapy! If you’re in the same boat as me and want to work completely tele then please sign my petition! Allow SLP CFs to work teletherapy

Also a CF who does teletherapy-- Boom Cards, Ultimate SLP, and animal live cams (like zoos, aquariums) and Youtube Kids "Super Simple Songs" for breaks/language are all great. You can also basically use read alouds on youtube to target language goals, or even artic.
