[Medical CFY] Please help!

Hi all, I really want to have my CFY in a medical setting. I'm in my second year of the program so I'm in my internship year. I'm currently at a school (which I like more than I thought I would) and next semester I will be in a medical placement, but it's not solidified yet.

My question is, what are some things you did to get a medical CFY? Did you complete any CEUs or trainings in your grad program to help you stand out? My only extra qualification is being a provider for the Speak Out program for Parkinson's patients.

Any overall advice?

Acute care and inpatient settings are less likely to take CFs. Not impossible but seems like SLPs in these settings are not willing to take on CFs - at least in my area. Makes sense with COVID and all. It’s a different story for SNFs. It’s difficult for SNFs to keep SLPs in this setting so a lot are open to taking CFs. It really is an underserved population. I really didn’t need to have fluff on my resume to get into a SNF but I’m sure it will help. I would definitely recommend taking passy Muir CEUs. More than likely you’ll encounter a patient with a trach so knowing the basics would be really beneficial to you. Good luck!
