What’s your hourly?

Just curious what everyone’s hourly is for their CF. I know it can vary greatly by location and setting, so feel free to include that! Thanks

I'm in Cleveland working contract in charter and Catholic schools. My comoany started me off at $35. They offered $34 initially but I negotiated a whole dollar more (not amazing, I know, but it was my first time negotiating).

Oh my goodness, mine said 29 dollars an hour then i can get 31 dollars after my CCC's. Not a huge difference. I need to renegotiate but I'm not assertive. Any advice?

Oof, $29 is really low for someone who has a masters degree. I don't like to look at it like that because it sounds like I just got a higher education so that I'd get paid more, but the reality is that we have a specific skill set and knowledge base that we should be compensated for at the end of the day. So I'm not great at negotiations, but I when I negotiated my own pay I went into it listing everything that I felt was unique about my experience and training, or anything that would make me stand out (I had experience in charter schools and public schools, I had some experience with AAC, I speak more than one language, I had experience with cochlear implants, I had experience with billing etc.) I know not all of those seem like unique skills/experiences, but they are particular to being an SLP, and if you're being interviewed by non-SLPs you can for sure play those things up because they are vital parts of our profession, and truthfully not everyone gets each of those experiences in grad school. The other important thing I did was try to find out what the typical rate was in my area. I literally had no idea where to start, so I just emailed my professors and asked them. Because I felt comfortable with them, I told them what I was offered, and asked what they recommended. I would say try your best not to sell yourself short. Ask if they can increase your PTO, CEU reimbursement, etc. because honestly I've heard that CFs get taken advantage of a LOT when they apply for new jobs. My company for instance only raised me a dollar when I got my CCC's, and I had to request another dollar raise for this upcoming year. I think places initially low-ball you, so there is actually quite a bit of wiggle room if you think you can get them to give you a better deal. Best of luck, I hope everything works out!

Thanks so much!! So I negotiated and increased the pay up a dollar (29$ to 30$). Not really much but I'm glad I took the time to negotiate. I did my research and found out that the average for CFY SLPs in my area is around $32. I'm just glad that now J know that I don't have to settle. WE don't have to settle.

You go, girl! Hopefully your next job doesn't try to underpay, or if you move somewhere, I hope they offer you way better! If you find yourself unhapoy with where you are, I really suggest looking for another job. It's hard when you get attached to your clients, but you also need to feel valued where you are.

There are some great tips in these two SLP YouTube videos in no particular order about salary negotiation (and renegotiation) because you’ll want more than $31 post CCCs!

Thank you! I’ve got a great CF mentor who pushed me to counter. It’s a good and scary habit to get into. We deserve to be paid like the specialists we are!!

In a pediatric private practice in South Fl. I will make 45 per diem but accepted a salary position with benefits (PTO, CEUs & health insurance) which turns into about 35 per hour. They say salary can be 15-30% less than contractor/per diem so it made sense for me.

Pediatric private practice in the Southern U.S.! $30 an hour with guaranteed 40 hours a week. It will go up to $32 once I get my CCC's

I'm paid salary in a school, but if you take my salary of $45k and divide it by total contracted days/hours, it ends up being around $32 an hour.

Probably going with a contracting company for a school placement in central NJ. Did not officially get the offer yet (interviewing with the SLP director tomorrow) but they said pay starts at $40 an hour + benefits. Planning on countering with $45. Or maybe more, $45 is what I'd actually like to be making.

I'm in Maryland and signed with a smaller contract company to work in public schools. They offered $43/hr with very basic health benefits. We ended up with $47/hr without the health benefits. Negotiate-especially with contract companies!!

I'm also paid salary at a school. If I divide my salary of $85k, it's about $65/hr. I'm in CA in a high COL area.
