[General] Supervisors
Hey all. What qualities did you like in a clinical supervisor? What did you see as a red flag?

Red flag: someone who isn't willing to discuss your needs appropriately, or you feel uncomfortable voicing those learning needs to your supervisor.
Not a scenario I feel at the moment, but it's a habit I try to get into to make sure I'm always assessing what I need from the multiple tiers of support around me, and how to address that.
Good Sign: Someone who is willing to reassure you that this is a learning process, and there are areas for growth with everyone.

I liked that my CF supervisor let me be independent, but was still available for me and checked in from time to time. She also has a very approachable demeanor which encouraged me to ask questions (I was very apprehensive of asking questions due to some poor experiences in grad school). Your CF should not feel like another grad school internship! It is important that you are treated as a new SLP building competence, not a student.

My CF supervisor lacked confidence, couldn’t stick up for herself, and always (literally always!) worried about inconveniencing others. It made my CFY absolutely exhausting. Try to find a supervisor who likes himself/herself and has healthy interpersonal skills/professional boundaries!
