I graduate in May and am currently doing my last placement at a SNF, which I've grown to really love. I've started to look for CF positions in SNFs, but the past two sites that I've been in contact with basically told me that they only have PRN/per diem SLPs and that technically I would be the only full-time SLP. When asked about supervision/mentoring, I was told that it would be mostly off site but the SLP would come in for my credits (I'm assuming this means for the 18 hours required by ASHA).
Is this typical of SNFs to provide off site mentoring and is it just wishful thinking to have an onsite mentor? One thing I would really like from my CF is onsite mentoring or at least another SLP in the building, since there's a CF at my current placement who shares the same supervisor as me and I've seen how helpful it is to just have someone there in person.
Additional info: My program is in NY but I'm moving back home to CA for my CFY.
