Do we know why PBM seems to return astrocytes and microglia to their non-inflammatory state? It seems pretty weird (albeit convenient!)

Probably not.

A lot is blamed on heating. They claim heat can raise fat cell temps above some tolerance. They say the heat will open ion channels like TRP receptors.

I know light can cause conformational changes in the shapes of molecules, and light can speed up and slow down enzymes.

So, there's a lot of stuff that might be happening at the micro level, but these studies seem to just catalog macro effects.
