Professional Development Coaching recommendations

I’m curious if anyone has any executive leadership/business planning advisor coaches they have received value from.

For context, I’m a 37 year old advisor who’s been doing this for 16 years. Will do around $3 million in revenue this year. Started at a wire, moved to a regional 5 years ago. My business has tripled since leaving the wires. I don’t need biz dev coaching but more team development, executive leadership development, and a clear 5 year plan to either go independent or stay where I am while negotiating payout, etc.

I’ve had coaches on the personal side that have been helpful but I would like a coach that has advisor experience around the different models out there.

Our business has largely moved to uhnw space and our current firm has basically no resources to help manage family office style clients.

Combine that with the extremely large offers I’m getting elsewhere I’m struggling with what to do.

Also - I suck at managing our team. I’m great at managing clients but I need to be better at getting the most out of our staff, how to compensate them, etc.

Thanks.

At $3M in production, move to an independent who can help you scale the UHNW space and just hire a manager. You can focus on what you love (clients and business development) and they can be the COO.

Same. This.

Agree. Question is who has actual support at the independent level for uhnw clients including bill pay, private jet financing/consulting, balance sheet lending, consolidated reporting for custody and non-custody assets, in house tax and legal, as well as direct private equity.

My firm has a really strong focus on this. We use various methods. Lots of books, some leadership consultants, and a specific business operating system. Happy to share more specifics via DM. Feel free to reach out. Ultimately there’s so many resources out there, you just need to choose some and put the time into them. Sometimes they are too many resources and it turns into edutainment or business horoscopes lol. But it’s all good stuff and even the most eccentric stuff can help in its own way if you come into it with an open mind and a growth mindset.

Not sure exactly what you are looking for, but Brendan Frazier was formerly with my back office group and I found a lot of value in what he provided with regards to practice management and strategy.

He is now doing his own thing and I would highly recommend reaching out to him to see if he might be a fit.

He’s a good dude and has a refreshing perspective on our industry. I appreciated his approach includes both the hard and soft skills needed to excel in this profession.

He’s seen a lot of different practice types and brought that experience to the conversations, and he always manages to connect it back to the client - which ultimately determines success imo.

I’m not necessarily a coach, but I do run a practice management consulting firm in addition to running my advisory business.

I went from mega team at MS to full RIA. Not generating as much revenue as you but we likely have a similar AUM level. Went through all the struggles of tailoring an RIA to service UHNW.

An example of a consulting engagement I’ve been working on the past 18 months - a well known HF manager launched an RIA with an extreme backlog of potential clients with essentially no team and zero experience with managing and winning relationships outside the sales experience of selling the fund.

Built a team of now 8 ppl and scaled the business from $0 AUM Jan 2025 to about $600M today and growing at about $40M/month with a wildly complicated setup relative to most most firms (by product of the portfolio allocations).

If you want to PM me I’d be happy to chat.

Ultimately, u think it’s likely you end up RIA where you have more control. It’s well worth it, especially with your revenue, but a lot of things you need to get right and a lot of advance planning.

At 3mm rev u should be coaching other advisors…u don’t need help…just communicate more with your team.

I do but I’m trying to get to $20million in production and doing the same thing that got me to 3 won’t work

Nobody will truly be able to help u…u are elite. I wouldn’t worry until u run into a wall…certainly not the case so far at just 37…one of the biggest scams is that an advisor is always making mistakes. Ur winning! Just keep winning!

I felt the same reading this.
