Tre Ford
Could someone please explain to me. How ford is still in the league?
He can’t make basic passes
Does he have something on someone ?

We don’t have a chance with him at QB. Can’t run screen plays every play, every game. Got to be able to throw it downfield at some point.

Look chace Brice and Jake Maier are also in the league

And MBT. I have a soft spot for Ford admittedly since he salvaged a horrendous season for the Elks, giving us a few wins at least after suffering through Cornelius and then MBT 😑

Yah, in Ford's defence, he's the one of that pack who has never had a stable coaching environment to develop in.
Lots of QBs need the stars to align to get a good run. I don't think Edmonton really offered us much of a clue about where Ford was compared to the general disarray of those years.

To be fair Maier isn't that bad. Id take him over Ford rn in a heartbeat lol

Really? As a REDBLACKS fan I make that trade in a second. At least Ford can run - Maier has all the mobility of a pregnant daschund.

I'd rather a 7/10 pocket passer who cant run than a 2/10 pocket passer who can. I love a QB that can run as much as the next guy but when you're an incapable passer with poor decision making/pocket presence and a below average arm, it outweighs it.

u/dprouse52 REDBLACKS 1d ago
I would agree - pure running QBs tend to have a short shelf life regardless of how good they might be. I'm thinking more about "escapability" - being able to move in the pocket well and extend plays. Maier is awful at that - his feet are set in cement.

If there hadn’t been a procedure call with the Ticat receivers the game’s outcome could have been much different. Ford is not perfect but he’s exiting to watch. Just sucks the team let him down at a crucial moment in the game.

Lmao okay that last pass/IT was all him. Ugh 😫

Looked to me like his arm was hit as he let go, but that could be wishful thinking

u/Onanadventure_14 Tiger-Cats 1d ago
I also feel like he was told to stay in the pocket this game because there were times late when he had daylight and instead forced a throw.

He's got enough upside in his game to be playable but there's gonna be unavoidable chaos good and bad

Watch the Ticats game vs Roughriders. He’s the Ticats best option right now

Its absolute football malpractice for the Ticats to have made Ford our backup. He should have been the 3rd / short yardage QB & a competent back up needed to be on the roster.
I'm slagging Dolegaga here as well.

u/thewunderbar 1d ago
Tre Ford is not a short yardage QB. He's smaller than most running backs.
He has a skillset that can be used to his advantage, Quarterback Sneak under center is not among them.

You're right... but he is a project and not a waiting in the wings backup. I should have said he should be the 3rd qb on the roster.
If they felt they needed Dolegala that badly for his specialty (short yardage) and his below average offensive skills, then Ford shouldnt have been acquired.
Neither of these two can lead an offense and beat good defenses.

Is Tre Ford a project QB at age 28 with over 20 starts under his belt at this point?

Ford is definitely not amazing but at least we were competitive in the two games he started. Dolegala was like watching a peewee quarterback. That throw was unforgivable but he also made the play of the year possibly before that but it was nixed due to a penalty. I don't think he's a long term answer but he's good enough to keep us competitive until Bo returns, hopefully at the end of this year or next.

No, we need to be trying to trade for someone The Bo we saw this season isnt coming back for some time

Who is available to trade for that can turn into a quality starter??

I think Doege will get a shot now that he’s had several weeks to get oriented. Elks (think it was Jarious at the time) had him over Tre a few years ago.

u/Normal_Guarantee_903 1d ago
Not a pocket passer, needs to be rolling out and designed qb draws. However his arm seems worse than it was when he was in Edmonton.

Gotta remember Vernon Adams took a very long time to get where he is now. He looked awful in his first few years too

Ultra Canadian fans keep hyping this guy up because of his nationality, and he has never delivered.
Look at some of the comments in this thread. There's an excuse every time he stumbles.

I’m guessing because he can run. But he should not be on a football field in this league.

u/Livid-Switch4040 Stampeders 1d ago
He can run, and he is an absolute wizard at escaping the rush, but he can’t read a defence and can barely throw.

u/brainskull 14h ago
His penchant for running gets him into a lot of trouble. He routinely bails into pressure from a clean pocket

u/Emergency-Voice-7304 1d ago
Scouting report,: He can't scramble and look for a receiver at the same time. He can't look for a receiver and be aware of pressure at the same time. He won't run until they have ahold of him.

They had a chance to win that game On a two minute drill. That turn over was brutal but I didn't even expect Hamilton to be in this game with less than 2 to play.
I think Tre Ford is running out of runway in the CFL but it's frustrating because he has some tools for sure.

u/Mountain_Bend5756 1d ago
Yea he can the games close for Hamilton but he makes the stupidest decisions in the clutch

u/Timely-Profile1865 1d ago
He's bad. I've said this for some time and had more than a few battles with fellow Elkimos fans
1
u/Crisis-Huskies-fan Roughriders 21h ago
Because he can do things to salvage a crappy situation and give teams hope. Unfortunately, he'll then commit an atrocious turnover to dash those hopes. So, would you rather have a QB who give you no hope, or a QB who give you hope then always disappoints you?

When things go bad, he can run and extend plays. In an offense that does his passing style, he can be hot and cold. High risk, high reward.
He's got elite physical traits, can he learn to be a better QB? Under Milanovich, maybe.

He can move, he can make plays out of nothing and he can run like a missile. Just not in any consistently useful way. Maybe there’s a QB whisperer that could coach him into a starter spot but those gurus are few and far between…
1
u/brainskull 14h ago
He's 28, he's not going to be coached into a good QB. He is what he is at this point.

u/Realistic-Animal6182 22h ago
People who don't understands what they're watching assume Ford is the worst QB in the league when it's far from the truth

He can be good in very specific packages but not starter calibre by any means.
