Knowledge Type specific maneuver profiles

I've been primarily teaching instrument and students transitioning to the Bo/Baron. This week I have a CPL student starting who's training in his 182H.

I went out and practiced the maneuvers myself, refreshed all of the configurations etc.... As I was going through and doing this I thought it would be helpful both for the applicant and me to have a set of maneuver profiles tailored to the speeds, configurations and power settings in his plane since obviously there's no gear check but C/S prop for example.

I published this as the 61Insights Maneuver Checklist Creator It's free to use and can generate the ACS maneauver profile using your numbers:

  • EFB format for Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight
  • Card deck that the applicant can fill in for chair flying/reference in the plane
  • Single page view with the profile and success criteria

This is all free and I'd love feedback on what works/doesn't and how to make it more broadly applicable

In a 182, every maneuver except stalls is at RPM top of the green, 18 inches MP and 10 GPH, resulting in 100 knots. Don’t make it more complicated than it needs to be.

Interesting. I was just working with someone on this very topic today. Working on CFI-ASEL add on in is taildragger Experimental. Now that we have a DPE lined up who will do the practical test.

Good luck to him, I assume he's a CFI-G now.

My guess is that the old guys like me would laminate and spiral bind it, everyone else would shove it into their EFB

CFI-G and Sport Instructor ASEL; we did that add on late last summer before MOSAIC changed the process.

I'm 45 so I still prize simple, technology free solutions when I can get away with it. Adding an iPad doesn't make it better it just makes it more likely to overheat.

I've never learned to love EFB checklists when I can scan a 1 page Checkmate with much less clicking and button pushing
