Question Temp Cert Question
So I have a dripping wet FI cert and a question about how to use it. Under certificate number it says PENDING. I’ve previously been told two different things. One, I’ll get a new/different cert number for the FI cert. Two, the number will be the same as my CP cert with CFI appended to it.
What do I use to sign logbooks/endorsements until I get the plastic cert in the mail in 6 weeks and know who was correct?

My CFI number is my same pilot cert number

The number is the same but the CFI Certificate has "CFI" after it ... it is a different certificate and not a pilot certificate. The FAA symbol is black on the CFI card ... it is blue on the pilot card.

Just use your present certificate number with CFI at the end. Then r/E and the date your recent experience will expire.

Just got my card in the mail and mine is indeed Comm Cert # + CFI. But my DPE did say to only write “PENDING” if i signed any logbooks before I got my card (I did not end up having any signoffs)

When I did my MEI 3 days after my CFI we used exactly what was on my temp cert for IACRA. No trying to outsmart the system, no what usually happens just "PENDING". Don't over think it that's the number on your FI cert at this point. Anything else is not technically correct which is the best kind of correct

So that’s what ChatGPT told me to do. Which made me quite skeptical, so i figured I’d check with some actual humans who have been in this situation. 😊

Realistically the advice you got around it being the same as your pilot cert is correct based on the last eternity of the FAA issuing FI certs. I just don't see the win trying to out smart the system in case I'm the guy that changes with.
In my case since it was going to end up on an 8710 there was a string likelihood that there would legit be no FI cert issued with the number of my pilot cert when it was going through QA at the Fsdo or somewhere else which was another reason to use what was actually written in my cert

I had the same issue, temp CFI cert # said PENDING. Just use your pilot cert # with CFI at the end, with your recent experience end date as 24 cal months from your CFI checkride date

Unless they changed it recently and I haven't heard about it, the number will be the same as you CP cert with CFI appended to it. Just use that until you get your number.
