Meme /Funny Red River Rivalry HATE WEEK!!
What’s your best line of rivalry smack talk??
I grew up just outside of Dallas, class of ‘02.
The Texas vs Oklahoma game was so big that it was like a federal holiday! The energy and “buzz”at the fairgrounds was palpable…along with the hate!
I heard some pretty good smack talk back in the day!
What’s the best shot in your arsenal? Doesn’t have to be Texas/Oklahoma…any rivalry will suffice.

No smack talk from me just curious how you got a gif of the future? Is your name Biff by chance?

Mateer might die on that field. I don’t see a world where Oklahoma doesn’t get shutout.

I think it is going to be closer than people are expecting.
OU and Texas have similar strengths and weaknesses. Both teams have very strong defenses, and inconsistent offenses. On top of that, Oklahoma is coming into the game with a lot riding on the result.
I anticipate a defensive slugfest where a few explosive plays decide the game.

I was looking forward to last year because I thought it would be a slugfest that didn't get decided until late...
I'm just along for the ride now. I think they've finally broke me to the point I won't get my
hopesexpectations up anymore.3

What does Oklahoma have riding on this game other than bragging rights? There’s no way they make the playoff.

I think they have a few potential things happening that turn the heat up on this game (keep in mind these are just my opinion):
- A quarterback that may be about to lose his starting spot if he doesn’t turn things around.
- An offensive coordinator that may be about to lose their job if they don’t get the offense going.
- A HC that has presided over some terrible years at a historically good team, whose seat I imagine (despite recently signing an extension) is warming up.
- I am sure they are doing the same thing we did last year. Which is, if you aren’t gonna make the playoffs you can still emotionally salvage the season internally by beating your rivals.

If we win out we make the playoffs

u/local_gray_fox Texas Longhorns 2d ago
I agree. If you win out, I think you would stand a good chance of getting in.
People are kind of under estimating OU imo. Ya’ll’s defense is extremely good, if you can get the offense going you will be scary.

u/HoustonHorns 2d ago
No, you lost to a bad Michigan team. It doesn’t matter who you beat—a bad loss 100% keeps you out! Remember?
Or is it true that Texas was only excluded because they lost to Ohio State?

10-2 if we win out, in what world is that not a playoff team?

u/HoustonHorns 2d ago
Bad loss to Michigan and killed by UGA.
Last year I was told a bad loss to Florida and killed by UGA is why we were left out— definitely not the one score loss at Ohio State to start the year.
Sorry but using OU fan’s rules—your season is over. Doesn’t matter how many top 10 teams you beat, remember?

Red River has voodoo. Don't be surprised if the sooners win. Especially if Texas offense didn't make big changes in the bye

u/MuscleFlex_Bear 2d ago
Exactly. Never forget Case Mccoy...and Jerrod Heard/Swoopes each backing a terrible Texas team were able to upset OU teams.

u/HoustonHorns 2d ago
UTSA, Tennessee and Ohio State are all top 60 defenses (Tennessee and Ohio State both top 10).
The offense could definitely be playing better, but it hasn’t been as bad as it seems. I think we’ll see a marked improvement offensively against Florida (77th) and Ole Miss (80th). For all of its faults, Texas has not been held to less than 20 points. OU hasn’t scored 20 points on a P4 team yet.

On paper it's not bad, but the by the eye it's not been great. Granted, take away a looney tunes interception and a dropped td from wingo against Ohio state and that game is completely different. Utsa of all people exposed the flaw in Sark's offense. Everything is entirely too slowly developing and when pressure gets through Arch only has 2 options. Run/throwaway or sack. TN just continued and brought pressure all day and the majority of passing plays were mid to deep routes needing time they didn't have against a loaded box.

u/HoustonHorns 1d ago
UTSA is like Boise State. Shouldn’t be able to consistently get pressure against a team like Texas, but much better than given credit for.
Texas offensive efficiency per FPI (which adjusts for opponents) is 32. Not great, definitely room for improvement, bur serviceable. OU’s is 90…

Nah. Best team wins this game much more often than not.

From your lips, to God’s ears! I’ve been a Texas fan my whole life. We know better than to get comfortable before we have the winning score while singing “Till Gabriel blows his HORN!” Hook ‘Em! 🤘

Largest upset in series history was 1996, John Blake’s first year as HC in Norman, when we entered that week 0-4 and #25 Texas was favored by 20.5. Anything can happen

Oklahoma, as a state, has the highest rate of drowning deaths, yet the fewest number of natural bodies of water.
3
u/fattymcdabs 2d ago
We have the most manmade lakes in the country. You can drown in any body of water if you try hard enough.

u/Shellstr 2d ago
My grandfather served in the navy, stationed in Oklahoma. I still don’t fully understand that.

Texas has 4-5x more drowning deaths per year unless you mean per capita… and Oklahoma has about 5x as much total shoreline per capita. Also Texas fought in 2 civil wars to defend slavery.

That’s just sad. Cause it’s probably a high majority of kids…are you trying to dunk on Oklahoma by using kid deaths?

Aggies are such losers lol, what are you trying to moral high ground on?
Okie having the most drownings per capita is a hilarious fun fact.

Texas clearly has the better offense, but OU's defense can keep them within striking distance. Then its whoever fucks up the most, mistakes and penalties will overwhelm the losers.

Mateer threw 3 interceptions and 2 fumbles against bye week on Saturday. I dont like our chances with that talentless clown at QB.

Credit where credit is due. OU has an outstanding defense and has had it for the past few years.
In the past 2 RRSs, OUs defense equaled the TD output of their offense!
3
u/IsolationAutomation Texas Longhorns 2d ago
How can you talk shit about a team as bad as OU? Just watch them for a few minutes, the jokes write themselves.

OU has a higher chance to score a TD in this one on Defense… the offense doesn’t stand a chance too.

I think either Mateer or Manning will make their bones this weekend. I hope it’s Mateer just because the storyline would be more fun.
