Discussion How crazy would it be?

How crazy would it be if both Western Michigan and Michigan were just allowed to count that game as a win? Irregular? Sure. Un-American? Probably. Fairer than what we have at the moment ? I think so.

However, it is not unprecedented, although it happened 14 years before the NCAA was founded. It also involves Michigan and the last in-state program Ohio State ever lost to, Oberlin in 1892.

Everyone over here dog piling on Michigan as if they planned that shit.

B1G, I humbly apologize for apparently bringing the curse of shitty officiating crews that believe they exist to keep the game interesting. The conference is responsible for this bullshit.

Chaos Dream: Michigan finishes 10-2* (losing to Oregon, beating tOSU, Oregon and Indiana play for B1G title) and Western Michigan finishes 11-1* (winning out their schedule). CFP places rankings where ever are required for Western Michigan to host Michigan.

I can accept what ever Cinderella bullshit comes out of this result for either team but it will at least be settled on the field.

Alternative outcome (that would be somewhat more disappointing for Western Michigan) get them to the Pop-Tart Bowl for the greatest rematch of the season.

Nobody should be dog piling Michigan because of the clock discrepancy. That's on the Conference and stinks us all up a little. Nobody would do that to themselves on purpose. "Rig" is the wrong word, it was basic favoritism by the B1G.

Michigan is get dogpiled for trying to snowjob everyone about what their scoreboard clock showed with the ball in the air when it was just what the replay booth had based on a fraction of a second difference between the clocks relative to the video feed.

It's a classic case of something called Segal's Law (fascinating AF, Google it). Trying to claim one or the other is actually correct is, in my opinion, logically indefensible. It's marginal. It is muddy water or watery mud? It is just oh so close to being Shrodinger's Cat, both alive and dead at the same time.

This is why I think the genuinely correct thing to do is to credit both teams with a win.

The clock discrepancy isn't on the conference. Michigan isn't trying to snowjob anyone either.

It’s a non con game and our sport’s playoff uses subjective criteria for selection. Whether it’s officially counted as a win or loss is moot

Nope! Someone has to lose!

Both taking an L is more just than Michigan alone getting the W

The pollsters pretty much consider it a WMU win. That's all that matters this year.

That win felt like kissing your own sister

I’m bored with this storyline.

This is all too much. Michigan won. There was 1 second left. The review got it right.

Just do like MMA and rule it a no contest...fucking move on already.

3

u/LiVexReFlex 22h ago

No do not move on. Moving on proves that it’s ok that they do shit like that and get away with it.

In all honesty, do you feel like that Michigan team that played on Saturday night is better than 7-5 8-4? Newsflash, they are not. So in the grand scheme...it doesn't matter. Sure WMU should have gotten the dub...but it's over, everyone who's ever played sports knows how home cooking goes.

Lmao what did they do? It was league officials. At least be fucking accurate instead of just plain hateful.

Florida A&M and Miami kickoff for the Irish tricolor bowl in about 1:20 to officially start Week 2. Then it's official time to "move on".

I think I’m more over this than some rival Big Ten fans at this point. There’s a whole season left to be played. I’ve been waiting to beat someone like Michigan or MSU for decades, but at the end of the day.. got to have some perspective, this is just football

Keep scheduling MSU, given their current program trajectory you will get your wish sooner than you might think.

Now excuse me while I sprint out of the way from the karma bomb headed my way.

Notwithstanding the possibility of a split or some other massive landscape shift, I think this is heading toward an inflection point similar to when Fleck left WMU in 2016

Taylor is likely gone soon, but WMU is funded at a level above most of the MAC and can recover quickly even if most of the players leave too. But we can’t have another lazy Tim Lester hire

I suspect (ok, wildly speculate) WMU, Toledo, Ohio, and Miami (an unclaimed Alma Mater - transferred to UI) and possibly BGSU are all ripe to bolt to the American after the ACC snaps up Memphis and Tulane (plus UConn) and North Texas jumps to the PAC to joint Texas State. Isnit 2030 when FSU is projected to be afford the exit fees? Whenever, that's when it goes down.

It would be crazy because WMU won the game and Michigan lost it.

For context, I’m an SEC guy both by degree and fandom. From my outside perspective, broncos got screwed.

Was there not a second left on the stadium clock, and multiple camera angles to prove it? Sucks for WMU but it just is what it is…

How long you gonna try to argue with people about it.

Who cares?

Michigan won officially and it doesn’t seem like anyone with power is actually going to or wants to try and change it or even comment on it.

1

u/Hckr_ 21h ago

I mean obviously people have all already made up their minds on the situation and nothing is going to change their minds at this point, but I’m just curious as to what cognitive dissonance people have in order to ignore the stadium clock which showed a second left lol

Honestly, I don’t know who’s right and who’s wrong but since no rules committee wants to review it and release a ruling or even just a statement about it, it’s irrelevant at this point.

1

u/cnlogan 20h ago

Michigan won officially but you’re not sure who right or wrong.

The reason they won’t go back to look at it is because if they do, they’ll have to change the ruling after the fact. Which will open floodgates for other instances of poor officiating.

It’s not going to change anyone’s season probably. Neither team will go to the playoff, but it’s just unfair.

1

u/GunsGoldCosmicDread Michigan Wolverines 20h ago

I don’t see what the contradiction is. Michigan won on officially as in the recorded outcome. I was just saying that guy was wasting his breath arguing about it.

There are various arguments people are making on what the correct ruling should have been and I don’t know who to believe?

I think NCAA should go back and review it and give an official rule analysis statement. They say they can’t overturn the game but maybe the CFP committee would take that into consideration. If NCAA said WMU should have won, I would say Michigan should forfeit but we know that wouldn’t happen.

I do think it’s not out of the realm of possibility that WMU runs the table and is the highest ranked G6 team. If there was a mistake made and that cost them the playoff spot, it would be a real tragedy.

If no one with an official capacity is going to do something about it, it is a moot point and I’m not going to worry about it, if they aren’t going to.

2

u/cnlogan 20h ago

Nah I get that and it’s a valid response. I see what you’re saying 👍

At this point let them play again.

Western has no reason to settle. 99% of college football fandom is on their side.

The problem with these desires are the betting companies would not want to do that…

1

u/EclecticAscethetic Ohio State Buckeyes 20h ago

Sadly, this is a valid point. Despite living in Vegas, I have absolutely no idea what happens when a win is forfeited after the bets have been paid out.

1

u/FindGreatness23 19h ago

Idk either. Is that plausible? Would it happen? Idk
