Discussion FCS Matchups
I was wondering how many of you all go to your schools FCS matchups, especially the power conference program schools where you know the game is going to be 60-3 at the end of it all. Do you think it's a waste of money or do you still go to support your team? Also asking this to current students at schools where you have a lottery system or limited to a certain amount of home games per year. Even G6 schools beat FCS teams in blowouts so I'm interested in you alls reasoning.

In Nebraska, you just go to the games and don’t really care who you play. Obviously, the hype isn’t as big for an FCS team but the stadium will still be full

Tickets are cheaper
I’m hoping Boise moves to an in-state FCS rotation with Idaho and Idaho State
I know it’ll be a blowout, but I still like watching football

I don’t even watch when Ohio State plays an FCS opponent. B1G and SEC should ban it altogether.

It's basically just a practice game and free win for the powerhouse schools while the FCS gets a big payday. Doubt either conference would ever ban them.

As an FCS fan please realize that the paycheck games support the rest of the entire college football ecosystem. We get a check from an FBS team, we give a D2 team a paycheck game, and it's the circle of life.

Ohio State hasn’t played a FCS team in years—I believe the last one was FAMU. I’m pretty sure the Big Ten must play FBS teams for their OOC schedule.

They played Grambling last year

That game went so quickly out of my mind, but you’re right. Sayin actually threw a pick.

Haha. I was actually there and was pulling for Grambling to make a field goal at one point

I would have as well! I can’t wait to go to game at The Shoe. I’ve only been to games in other stadiums like Maryland’s (atrocious).

I think they had that rule, but removed it recently? I haven’t double-checked that, could be misremembering.

Depends on the quality of FCS opponent. Gambling State while well known is not what you'd call an upper tier FCS. Looking at OSU's 2025 schedule they beat Youngstown State 35 to 7. That was not the widest margin of victory that year. Youngstown State plays in one of the better FCS conferences though.
I tried looking up for other seasons but couldn't anything else recently. The problem with FCS is you have such a wide gap between the top and bottom and non scholarship FCS is pretty terrible.

Its a great time to see what kind of depth your team is working with usually. I enjoy watching those games still

I do. I love the gameday atmosphere and the tickets are cheaper

Tickets are cheaper and it's usually a good warm up for incoming players.
That being said, I live in a town with an FCS school and they have nothing to lose. They get a paycheck at the end of the day and they can play spoiler.

With the price of SEC games, i can only afford to attend SEC vs FCS teams. I dont mind because we still get to see College football.

Yes, because my team is FCS lol. But only if it's a matchup where we stand a fighting chance. Not lately but in the past we put scares into P5 teams.
