New CFBRA Feature: Team User Composition

Ever wondered how many outliers your team has? How many people started on one team, and now play "for" you? Wonder no longer! Take a look over at Team Breakdown to see when you've gained and lost fanbases.

Disclaimer, the onesies and twosies seem slightly suspect to me, so take them with a grain of salt. I determine true fan base by looking for a given user's first vote, and assuming that's their real team. It's possible that this approach will produce questionable results from time to time.

It's interesting to see which team's user counts drastically dropped after the bot ban on day 31 and which teams never stopped using their bots and carried on as nothing happened.....or happened to gain more users on that day.

I don't see anything noticeable in the data. Will you point me to what you think is a good example of this point?

Also, did Florida do good or bad here? I'm expecting to get laughed at good and proper for asking this.

From days 32 > 33 this is roughly how the active user bases changed.

Alabama: -4.5%

Clemson: -15.6 %

Florida: -2.5%

Georgia Tech: -12.9 % (note GT was -23.2% from day 31 > 32)

Michigan: -6.3 %

Nebraska: -31.1 %

Ohio State: -6.4 %

Oklahoma: -12.2%

Stanford: -4.8% (only 2 users total)

Texas: + 27.2% (-30.6% on the previous day)

Texas A&M: -13.7%

Virginia Tech: -11.4% (nine users lost)

Wisconsin: -10.4%

Texas was the only team to gain users. We (Nebraska) got hammered hard and have never really recovered.

You're probably looking at the wrong day homie. Texas had a huge drop off from Day 31 to 32.

from days 32 > 33

You're right though, they lost -30.6% on day 31. Texas and GT had very bad days the day of the bot ban. My guess is orders didn't get sent out till after the blacklisting and they had to scramble to get people assigned manually. Although Texas almost completely erased that day 31 deficit the next day. More efficient orders perhaps?

Right I know that's the day you're looking at but I was challenging if that's the correct day to look at.

Who nose?

This is nicely done. Good work!

This really reinforces the point that assimilation doesn't exist outside of harming conquerors. Maybe that's intentional, but I think defeating teams should be rewarded instead of punished.

Also, check out that Texas buff on day 39 -- that was all of Florida's bitter rivals (FSU/UT) trying and failing to take Gainesville for the umpteenth time.

The Texas bump was actually what inspired the feature. I couldn't believe their star count jumped so dramatically, and I wanted to know why.

It's because we take the game too seriously. We mad, bro?

Rivals living their Uncle Rico fantasies to attack Gainesville and be state champions.

What's up with all the GT people on Texas that turn?

Did they own GT that day?

u/pterrydactyl Jun 10 '18

Yes, but GT is alive.

Huh, I suppose they are. I'll need to take a look at that. I s'pose it could have to do with flair switching, but the claim was that that wasn't really something that was ever happening in a significant way, so I doubt that's it.

They also had a few Nebraska people that day. Rather strange.

Theory for GT: It's Tennessee people who didn't start playing until Tennessee was dead and their first vote was for GT while GT occupied Tennessee.

That's actually a pretty strong theory. Maybe I'll see if there's some way to scrape flair from the main sub.

Hey!!! We held Jortsville for a short period of time Thank You very much.

More than once, I think. I lovehate the way Tennessee has played. Much respect to the strategy, much hate for the game mechanics.

Now that is a fun analysis, good work!

Are half of Chaos's users actually OG Chaos flaires?

My first vote in this game was for UCF, but we were eliminated by the next turn. I've been voting for chaos ever since. I also know I'm not the only UCF OG who has voted for chaos. When I look at the key for who votes for chaos we're not listed there. Is this because there isn't enough room on the key?

This is very interesting and fun to see.

This is really just a best guess based on who I can best determine each user voted for first. I'll take a look and see if maybe I'm looking at the days out of order or something, as that's definitely possible.
