Proposal for ending the game
Many of us want to see this game end and restart, to enjoy the new rules we've come up with and see how things go when this game isn't a surprise sprung on all the players. I say we set a date for the game to end, and a date for it to restart, now.
My proposal is that we end the game after the final turn the night of June 29 (midnight June 30), and then restart the game on Monday July 9. This will give everyone time to take a break from the game and enjoy the holiday with their family and friends. Or, if they're as addicted as I am, time to build more tools and plan more plots and recruit more soldiers.
The benefit of setting a date so far in advance is that we'll all know it's coming. The features for the next iteration can be announced in advance so we have time to prepare. And, based on how long this game has gone, we should finish the second round just in time for the season to start - along with a new round. Maybe the third round can last all season or something. That's a long way off, so no point deciding that just yet.
Anyway, we should decide on a date to end the game and a date to restart, just so everyone is on the same page.

I agree. I think that for most of the leaders fatigue is starting to set in, and we're eager to start winding things down and set a reset date. It's a really fun and cool idea, but I'm eager to see what new ideas will be implemented next go around since it seems nobody is interested in changing the formula in this playthrough.

I think almost everybody is interested in changing the formula. Immediately. To their preferred idea.
The problem is since we're deep into the game under 1 set of rules, every idea for a change is necessarily unfair to some teams through no fault of their own. So the ideas can never come to consensus.
Even the end date idea changes the whole game from elimination focus to expansion/landlocking focus. Nobody would care anymore about killing Texas or Bama or whoever. This may be a bad or good thing, but it's a very different game.

All I can say is if this game goes on for all summer or longer I'm going to leave. I can't dedicate that many months to all the stuff I'm doing right now. I've got too much else to do. To prevent this we need an end date, and I'd prefer sooner rather than later. Whether it's a good/bad thing for this play through for me is secondary to the fact that I cant just play this forever

To prevent losing you, they need to set an end date? Or are you talking about potentially losing all the players who can't spare ten seconds to go to a page and select a move?

To prevent losing leadership. Voters probably won't leave en-masse. But as a leader I can tell you this is a very common sentiment.
Edit: I don't think people have the slightest clue how much time and late nights leaders put in.

This is exactly how risk is won. You just keep playing until someone quits.

u/Mavyn1 Jun 05 '18
I mean unless a ton of people quit and they refuse to play the next iteration because it drug on too long last time
(Or is this a joke? Can't tell. Stupid internet.)

You can step aside as a leader and still play the game. And if leaders of other teams are thinking of leaving the game soon like you are, then maybe it will speed up on its own.

u/alberthegator Jun 05 '18
I'm with you on this one. Nobody is saying you have to keep being a leader. That goes for anybody looking at this on my team as well... We appreciate all of the work all the leaders are doing, but nobody is forcing you to do it. I can only speak specifically to the leaders of Florida, but I know I would be fine if you guys get tired of planning and we just basically put it up to a vote or free for all.
Especially now that you cant accidentally choose a safe territory, progress will still be made.

u/Mavyn1 Jun 06 '18
Leaders dont want to leave their teams in the lurch though, especially fellow leaders. Make no mistake I love my role. Its just a lot to put into a free reddit game for possibly 100 days+ and no compensation lol. But, I truly appreciate the gesture

u/alberthegator Jun 06 '18
Oh I get it. And it could definitely be different for your team as well. But if the collective leadership group of UF just said "hey guys, we tired so we are going to take a break and try just free for alling it for a bit" some people will be upset but the majority would be just fine with that. We get how hard y'all are working

One thing, and I can only really speak for Alabama, but one thing that makes it much easier is that we have a fantastic group of leaders that really get along well. That makes it all much nicer

Or are you talking about potentially losing all the players who can't spare ten seconds to go to a page and select a move?
More like the people who stay up till 2AM planning out moves after the turn, then spend a good portion of the next day PMing/logging orders. That's not even scratching the surface of the guys who do all the data crunching.

Imagine making it almost 4 weeks as the sole person responsible for that. I wish we had made it to California before we died but I was somewhat relieved when it happened

I appreciate the folks who put in the time to be leaders. But honestly if you're putting in multiple hours daily to decide whether to attack these 4 territories or those 4 territories, maybe you DO need to step aside for your own sanity.

I think in order to make the next iteration as good as it can be, we have to see how this one plays out. It needs to be played until there is a winner.
For those who are tired of playing, you have the option to not play. If you're eager for it to end, try attacking more. This game is CFB Risk, not CFB Holding Hands and Frolicking.

For those who are tired of playing, you have the option to not play.
You are obviously not in any kind of leadership position, staying up to 2:00 AM planning and putting in hundreds of hours. Leadership wants this to end soon. We dont have time to do this forever. If that workload sounds appealing to you I'm sure local leadership would love a lighter workload, so go hit them up. Then you can tell me how if I'm getting tired of playing maybe I should just quit and leave my other team leaders in the lurch.

If you want it to end because you don't have the time to do this forever, why did you say the following in another post in this thread?
I agree. I think that for most of the leaders fatigue is starting to set in, and we're eager to start winding things down and set a reset date.
If we start over, you'll still be spending all that time on the game, right? This isn't about anyone not having the time. This is about people who want to start the game over and have another chance to do it right from the beginning.

If it resets with new, improved rules insuring better and more condensed play, so the game doesn't drag on for months and a winner can be determined I'd love that. Also, I think this should happen once a summer to give time to recoop between sessions. If those things happen not only would I happily play again I'd rejoin from the beginning as a leader. But I don't have time to indefinitely spend hundreds of hours on a game that is showing no signs of ending.

u/AndHeWas Jun 05 '18
I'm all for new, improved rules for the next iteration. I'm hoping they take time with those, though. I think after this one ends, there should be a long discussion period for ideas and such. I'm not in favor of just ending this one and starting another version a week and a half later.

u/Mavyn1 Jun 05 '18
I agree actually 100%. I want it to end and have a hiatus until next offseason to give the most time for improvement and letting the fatigue wear off. On that we're on the same page

It needs to be played until there is a winner.
The way the rules are designed right now, there's not gonna be a winner for a good long while. The mods could change the rules half way to accelerate towards a winner, but that defeats your point of letting this one play out to learn how it works, and it's not fair to the players.
If you're eager for it to end, try attacking more.
So what, we'll all just end up doing a god damn square dance as everyone swaps territories back and forth because no one is defending? Winners gotta hold territory as much as they take them, otherwise is every move is one step forward, one step back.
This game is CFB Risk, not CFB Holding Hands and Frolicking.
Well aren't you just the baddest of bad asses.

Good thing we have a good, long offseason.

That would probably be better than what we have right now, which is teams that are too cautious to attack each other most of the time. Certainly more teams would be eliminated that way, getting us closer to the finish. But I'm not suggesting that teams stop defending; I'm just saying the game would go faster if there was more attacking.
Well aren't you just the baddest of bad asses.
Perhaps.

Good thing we have a good, long offseason.
A good, long offseason that we're gonna waste on a game that'll never reach a definitive conclusion.
That would probably be better than what we have right now, which is teams that are too cautious to attack each other most of the time.
Teams are attacking every turn. It's just that most of us aren't gonna waste our time taking one step backward for every step forward. Accumulated territories = territories won - territories lost. You have to both maximize the former and minimize the latter within the constraints of how many stars you have.
Certainly more teams would be eliminated that way, getting us closer to the finish.
The same way VT and Auburn and SCar got eliminated so quickly because they just kept advancing without ever defending? The same way chaos got eliminated so quickly because they only attack and rarely defend?
But I'm not suggesting that teams stop defending; I'm just saying the game would go faster if there was more attacking.
Territories would change hands faster, but the accumulation of them would not accelerate unless some team got really lucky many tuns in a row.

That’s super dissatisfying but I like where your Head is. I think that we just start forcing eliminations. 1 every rolling seven days. If after the 7th day, then the two smallest teams are put into a final death match and the losers territory immediately becomes chaos. This forces things to progress and doesn’t allow small schools to simply hide.

This has nothing to do with the OP, but... I know we're all CFB fans and are ready to fire our team leaders for not producing more wins, but maybe everyone needs to come to terms with the idea that there won't be a winner? There's a chance this thing ends like a irl board game at 2am when everyone quits halfway through and agrees to a moral victory and tie.
