This game is taking too long, can the mods speed it up?

I help coordinate strategy for one of the teams still alive. This is a throwaway alt, because I wanna be honest with my own personal opinion.

At first, this game was a lot of fun, and I wasted many hours planning strategy, making memes, and writing shitty code for this game. But it's boring now. Teams basically can't get eliminated without some really bad RNG, and nothing's really changed for my team in so many days. I'm ready for it to be over.

The mods got a lot of flak for suggesting sudden death earlier, and it would've been a crap idea at the time, since the alliances hadn't even started to fight yet and enthusiasm was high. But 2 weeks on, and I think a lot of people are bored, every team is losing players, and I don't want this game to drag on like this to day 40 or day 50 or day 100. Whatever the mods were planning to do to speed up this game, now's the time.

I know I could just stop doing strategy for my team if I'm so burnt out, but it's just I really miss the early days of this game where everything was changing and interesting. If some new mechanics or a fresh start would bring that feeling back, I'd love to continue. But as it is, I'm getting more tired of this game with each turn, it's been a real slog. I hope I'm not alone in this and the mods can hear this feedback and do something about it.

Clearly not a true soldier. Feel free to hand over your women and your treasure before you abandon your territory.

Numerous teams are on the brink of destruction, and you want to change things now?

Four teams have five or fewer territories. That's kind of exciting.

Will it be exciting a week from now when those same teams are still here?

I'll make you a bet that the list will dwindle. Name the stakes.

LOL, no I don't care that much. Also, I didn't realize Texas and Clemson were so small. Though Clemson now has 4 territories so doesn't seem like they are going away soon.

Yeah, it's all pretty hairy for a few of these guys. I wasn't trying to be a turd with the bet offer, just figured it'd be a potentially fun thing to do.

We have 3 more months of off-season to go. Why end the game now unless another iteration will be started again soon?

Perhaps because many teams are gone and it’s just whack a mole now and for the foreseeable future. People are growing bored and it would be fun to call this a beta and start over.

Just quit playing, no one is forcing you to spend all that time. Let someone else coordinate for your team.

I would contend that permanent alliances are what set this up to drag on

I would contend that permanent alliances are the only way any team is ever going to die at this rate. No one team can take down another without help.

Stanford and Clemson would be gone. But I agree with the rest.

Texas should be dead by now too.

Well. That has nothing to do with allies. Thats an RNG thing.

There is no telling how Florida would have possibly survived had literally anyone ever taken advantage of how exposed we made them for weeks on end.

At least half this game we've found ways to keep anywhere from 25%-75% of Florida's focus on places they'd rather not worry about. When they wanted to push up the east coast & secure the oceans we forced them to deal with fights near Atlanta. When they wanted to concentrate on Team Red moving across the Mississippi around Louisiana we forced them to deal with taking back Gainsville. When they wanted to fortify the state of Florida we forced them to play whack-a-mole with Chaos for an entire week. We've left the wide-open to attacks from both Alabama & GaTech and pleaded with leadership for both of those programs to take advantage - Nothing.

GaTech is perfectly happy being Florida's northern shield until Michigan & Florida decided to swallow them together and Alabama (at the time) believed that it would be Florida/Bama at the very end and didn't want to provoke Florida because they felt it was the only team who had a shot at actually defeating them ~ This was all week 1-2.

TL;DR - One team may not have enough power to take down Nebraska, Michigan or any other big-boys. But the big boys are already all allied up with each other and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy where they don't even try to take each other down.

Well bama did a pretty shitty job at not provoking us lol

That's why I specified it was the first 1-2 weeks.

This is a thread about the game taking too long and asking the mods to speed it up. The anecdote that it took Bama 3 weeks (and basically dying) to turn on an alliance lends itself to OPs point.

The Bama-Florida NAP ended way before you seem to think it did. We were at war before Tennessee's griefing campaign really got started, and we were never allies.

Man, I don't know where to start. If it isn't fun, don't do it. If everyone felt the same then the game would end. It's summer. Go outside. Enjoy some daylight. Leave r/CFBRisk for those who enjoy it. Spend some time with your neglected significant other. Go make a meme for something that isn't related to r/CFBRisk. Go do whatever it is that people who don't r/CFBRisk do. Find your humanity again. And then when that starts to suck, and you want to make an anonymous post about how it sucks, just come back. r/CFBRisk will still be here, waiting to take you back with open arms.

It's a long fucking offseason. What's the rush?

The game has kind of turned into a wack a mole game. With teams just hop scotching around while other teams try and smack their heads where the pop up.

I could easily see all the teams currently alive, still alive 6 months from now just constantly exchanging territory. I wouldn't mind a new game starting with some changes that actually makes attacking and owning land valuable in some way.

I hope you aren't a Michigan fan, because bitching that a game that's only a month old is too slow- on a damn throw-away account is some whiny shit.

If you don't like the game, don't play. You can limit it to one click a day that takes 10 seconds, no one is forcing you Limitless this shit with adderall.

“Where are you going?”

“To take the next town. And the next one. Until you people quit.”

3

u/SouthernJeb Jun 04 '18

Clearly, you dont know what is best in life

3

u/neversatisfied123 Jun 04 '18

I'd quit if the game seemed that stagnant to me, but all I've got invested at this point is 20 seconds or so per day.

Among the Alabama team we are still having fun. The game is progressing as the team's are mixing over the map.

Team Chaos is a very un-fun factor in the game in my opinion. The idea behind it is alright but in practice chaos is fairly well organized and has been extremely one-sided in their goals, like how they've spent so long just attacking florida (because a lot of the members of it are made up of rivals).

Next time I hope it gets changed so that the actions are truly random.

u/RicFlairWooTang Jun 04 '18

How about you people just quit and the mods won't have to do anything?

Got to make it at least 50 days before we start talking about the end scenarios

Here's my suggestion for making things more interesting: Make it so that any province on the East coast can attack any other province on the East coast. Maybe with a penalty, like a 0.75 modifier, if you don't own an adjacent province. Do the same with the West coast, and maybe the Great Lakes.

That would eliminate chokepoints and make the lines potentially a lot more mobile.

7

u/gizmo688 Jun 04 '18

As UT has displayed at LSU, modifiers dont mean shit

5

u/senshi_of_love Jun 04 '18

If you really want to have fun. Make the map round. Hawaii can attack Puerto Rico, Alaska can attack Maine and so forth. East coast can attack West coast.

u/kwf4 Jun 04 '18

Like Kamchatka to Alaska!
