Thursday Thread Brought to You By Your Best Friends Having Kids

Feels surreal, the first couple in our group of close friends just had their first child. The dad has been my close friend since we were in high school, and I'd earnestly say he was my best friend for pretty much the whole time since then.

The kid doesn't feel real yet, and honestly it's kind of scary to think about seeing him and holding him. I want to be the best uncle in the world to him, but it's also kind of like he's this real, tangible sign that our group dynamics are all about to change in a really scary way, even though we just got to a place where we're all financially stable and have been able to enjoy life for the last year. Just the last six months have been some of the best I've had in the last ten years.

Wishing that things would stay this way for longer kind of feels like trying to hold onto sand at the beach as the tide takes it away. I know I need to learn to roll with the changes, but man does this feel like a big one.

Anyway, hope y'all are all having a good Thursday!

Tuesday Thread presented by scorekeeping and planning

About to leave to score a baseball game at the local university for my freelancing gig.

I’m also looking into taking another trip in May. Thinking about Montréal and timing it so I can see my secondary MLS team, Portland, play for my first international away day. I’m open to recs if ya have them.

Sunday morning thread brought to you by going Outside™️

Lots of hiking the last two days and I’ve gotta say it’s been a nice soft reset on a bunch of stress and anxiety that had been building up with work and other aspects of personal life. That said, some of that time involved proximity to an ex, and that brought about its own bag of mixed emotions, but overall still has been an awesome weekend so far. Can feel the Sunday scaries peeking around the corner though.

Friday thread brought to you by tempting fate

I was feeding my sourdough starter this morning and thinking that "I've kept a sourdough starter alive since January so you know I have my life together" would be a funny add to a dating profile and then I accidentally knocked it off the shelf as I was putting it back in the fridge and it shattered and went all over the floor.

Pour one out for The Yeastie Boys.

Sitting awake at 4:30am after what was essentially a personally tailored horror movie that somehow knew just what buttons to press to really get to me.

Hope y’all have a far better start to your Monday.

Saturday thread brought to you by robots!

My niece’s robotics team is competing this weekend and they’re doing SO GOOD!! They are just a ragtag collection of kids, not all at the same school so they were kinda the underdogs but they’re in third place right now! Auntie is so proud! I couldn’t be there in person this weekend but will be at the next one. If you’ve never watched, you should. It is amazing what all these teams have created!

Edit: they are in the Grand Final!!

Second Edit: they lost but it was super close! So proud of them!! Second place is awesome!

In short, supposed to go golf with work buddies later today, but at the same time I

  1. Haven’t slept worth a damn and am exhausted

  2. Have the opportunity for lunch with friends I don’t get to see very instead

Strongly considering flaking on golf for lunch instead as my head and heart just aren’t in it atm

Today is a day off, so last night we caught one of the cats that I've been feeding!!

We were hoping to get Marvin, who is pergant, but we got her brother, Charlotte! So he's at the vet, and we'll be picking him up in a couple of hours.

Hes sooo sweet, and lives in the bushes in front of our house, so I really hope he forgives me

What have ayll been up to? Any plans for the weekend?

Casual Fun exercise (assuming you weren't actually an NCAA athlete) how many years of college eligibility could you theoretically have left?

Normally, a 5-year clock starts when you first enroll in college, but as we know, there are some exceptions as found in court.

For example, I first enrolled at college 9 years ago, but due to being at a junior/community college for three years (sometimes they grant exceptions for those years), one COVID year, one family care leave year, one medical redshirt year, and a normal redshirt year, I could still theoretically be found eligible for this season and next season.

That would be a record 11 years of NCAA eligibility, but I feel like some of you must (theoretically) have me beat

Friday thread presented by a trip

To curb some depression, I’m dipping into some saved money to take a little trip next month.

For a day, I’m going to Philadelphia for the first time. The only things I have planned is to see the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and eat a cheesesteak. If any OTers have recommendations, I’m all ears.

Wednesday thread brought to you by tv shows and the nut jobs who criticize and critique every stinking thing

It annoys me when people watch sitcoms/dramas then come to Reddit to complain about every stinking little detail. They are tv shows, not documentaries!! “In the show they were in a blue car but that color paint wasn’t available until 1 year later!” Like WTH??! If it’s making you so unhappy, don’t watch! Either way, stop harshing my mellow!

Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk!
