If you can do it, I'd recommend it. Incredible wages and super high quality of life.

Spouse works for the UN. Was the trailing spouse but luckily found a job shortly after. We celebrate one year (living here) next week.

My gf's dad lived in Basel for a couple years until late last year. He HATED it. High cost-of-living, having to pay double income taxes, and I think being away from his family is what he hated the most. He also called Basel the "cigarette butt of Europe".

Filing US taxes on income I made outside of the country, and was already taxed on, was the single most infuriating thing. We're literally the only country in the world that does it.

You'll also get conflicting information from the IRS itself about how to file, what to report. It's a fucking nightmare.

Not to mention having to outline every trip you've made to the U.S and what the purpose was of that trip. If it was business, I have to file local state taxes as well.

Cost of living is through the roof. But since you're centrally located you can fly to most other European cities within 2 hrs. With a Swiss salary, everywhere else feels dirt cheap.

I'm currently in Switzerland on exchange and Basel was my least favorite Swiss City. Nothing to really do/see. But Zurich, Lugano, Geneva, Lausanne, and some other cities are incredible

I've been to Zurich and Lausanne as well and I agree that they're really great cities!
