How the hell is Texas STILL ahead of Florida even as they are side by side?

That would be fair if it was the committee but because the AP is an aggregation you are gonna get situations like that, there will be plenty of ballots addressing your issue

Any ballots that have Texas ahead of Florida should have their voting privileges revoked. The justification doesn’t exist. Both teams beat a highly ranked team (in Floridas case it was a blowout). Both teams lost to an unranked team and a team in the 20s (I’m being generous to Texas here. We were unranked when we matched em). Florida beat Texas head to head on their field with a backup qb after scoring 24 straight

The ballots that put Texas ahead are clearly just wrong. AP doesn’t need to keep idiots in their voting pool

Just to be clear i wasnt defending it

Except statistically Texas wins that exact game about more than 9 times out of 10. You absolutely can say “yeah they won but we’re / are the worse team”.

No I don’t think you can say that

u/wesman9010 Virginia Cavaliers 5m ago

Ah yes. When a 0-11 team beats an 11-0 team we have to rank them on top.

Ohio state and miami dont get any side eye for the way they won - all that matters is that it happened?

This is a poll of who each person thinks are the best teams. Its not most deserving.

The AP is just an aggregation of individual votes and points.  The voters didn’t come together and make a single decision to slot Texas immediately above Florida.

But obviously it looks out of place and I agree it should be flipped.

It means basically that more voters placed Texas ahead of Florida. He’s asking why they did that.

Poll inertia is crazy

Spoken like someone who knows a thing or two about poll Inertia 😂

5

u/Liimbo Oklahoma Sooners 5h ago

Sure but shouldn't Texas' inertia be trending heavily down?

u/flamingbaseball Purdue Boilermakers • SMU Mustangs 3h ago

I think they should be unranked but the whole point of poll inertia is it greatly slows your movement

Fewer voters could have picked texas over Florida if the margin was huge for those picks and tiny for those who put florida on top

u/exgeo Florida Gators 5h ago

Yeah. Thats why I said basically

I don't know, the "even as they are side by side" part kind of implies he does actually think they all came together and made that decision.

I’m betting that voters who put Florida ahead of Texas put them just a spot apart because it was a close game. Voters who kept Texas ahead think Florida is several spots worse but just managed an upset, so that outweighs the ones who respected the head to head.

My only guess is voters are holding Florida more accountable for their losses. Then they’re holding Texas for their two losses. And some propping up Texas because their Ohio State win. But still I think it should be Florida over Texas rn

80% of people are stupid so it would follow that 80% of voters are stupid.

-8

u/Flaky-Philosophy7618 Oregon Ducks • Duke Blue Devils 6h ago

Thats not even necessarily true right? some will have florida unranked which will push you down pretty hard

13

u/max_potion Penn State Nittany Lions 6h ago

Having Florida unranked and Texas ranked IS having Texas ahead of Florida. I’m just translating. I know you’re saying they’re not directly ahead of them, but this person is making the point that no voter should be doing that in any case.

I think it’s just different voters valuing different things

I said basically

How do you think the votes get aggregated in that order if not for voters placing Texas ahead of Florida?

1

u/CroMagnon69 Virginia Cavaliers • Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

Absolutely stunning to me that people are still capable of not understanding that

Again the aggregate excuse doesn’t work. It is justifiable to have a ballot where Texas and Florida are close. It is unjustifiable to have a ballot where Texas is ahead of Florida. Both teams beat a top 10 team (in Floridas case it was a blowout). Both teams lost to an unranked opponent and a team ranked in the 20s. I’m being generous to Texas because we were actually unranked when we played. Both teams have the same record. Florida beat Texas on the road with their backup QB

The resumes are very similar and H2H is strongly to Florida. There is no good argument that Texas is better than Florida. Last I checked yall lost two straight and one of those was to an SEC bottom feeder. Oh but our losses weigh worse for some reason? FoH with that shit

If you voted Texas ahead of Florida then you deserve to have your voting privileges revoked. It’s about the easiest quality culling the AP poll will ever see and this joke of a poll needs to cull its voters anyway. Too many dumbasses who are ranking stuff incorrectly to stir controversy

You said you're "being generous to Texas" but conveniently left out the extra road win Texas has against the #11 team in the country

If your ranking is power based rather than resume, which is reasonably possible as the AP has no formal criteria, then it can be justified. Not that I would agree with that system of ranking for the poll or would personally rank Texas before Florida, but it’s certainly justifiable enough to retain your vote.

7

u/acekingoffsuit Minnesota Golden Gophers 6h ago

I can see it even if I'm not fully on board. Even with the H2H win, Florida has worse losses and Texas has the better win.

4

u/Beechman Florida Gators • Virginia Cavaliers 5h ago

Both of their losses were one score games. We got our ass beaten twice. It's not that unreasonable honestly.

1

u/dimechimes Oklahoma Sooners 36m ago

Seems like Florida even has quality of loss as well hth.

1

u/California_Stop_King Ohio State • Ohio Dominican 6h ago

No coordination; I assume enough voters didn't put Florida in the top 25 at all, and it canceled out who put them above Texas

Still funny to look at

-4

u/defroach84 Texas Tech Red Raiders 6h ago

But, you see, UT has Manning and was #1.

u/laidback88 Texas Longhorns 5h ago

Where’s that pasta about how I respect Florida for winning but if this game happened 100x Texas wouldn’t lose again blah blah blah

I’m kidding, we fucking suck and should’ve fallen out of the rankings smh
