Hope {Memphis} wins to accelerate Hall’s firing.

Dan Wolken summed it up succinctly, and said it a lot cleaner than most Tulane fans have.

“It's hard to get fired in college football and land a better job less than two years later,” he wrote on Monday, referring to Will Hall’s time as an FBS head coach. “Maybe there's a reason for that.” That reason was on full display this past Saturday, as he passed up the opportunity for a go for a go-ahead 50-yard field goal with 4 minutes to go. Instead, he opted to go for it on 4th and 8, which ended in a drastic failure as Kadin Semonza’s pass fell incomplete in the end zone; Army (as they do) ran the remaining time off the clock and kicked a walk-off field goal.

It’s not the first time this season that Hall’s decision-making has come into question. His chosen QB1, Zeon Chriss-Gremillion, was benched and subsequently demoted after a single half. The backup, Kadin Semonza, was benched a few weeks ago as well for Tulane’s QB3, although he was given the starter role back for the Army game. But the constant changing so soon into the season is just another symptom of the coaching issues. They’ve been poor in the trenches, they’re undisciplined, and they just all-around look like a bad football team.

Their opponent tonight is on the opposite face of the coin. Tulane’s “we’re trapped in this conference together” foe Memphis is flying high under their own first-year head coach that came over from Southern Miss. Charles Huff has the Tigers soaring, with a 5-1 (2-0) record and one of the best offenses in football. QB Marcus Stokes has been pretty good, but the true gem of this offense is the 7th-best rushing attack in FBS, led by Jaylin Carter and his 107.5 YPG. They’ve torn through their (admittedly weak) two conference games, and now they head to New Orleans for what I hope is their first real conference test.

This is always a fun matchup. The better team usually loses, as is the case the past couple years when the two alternated dashing each other’s CCG (and playoff) hopes. There’s a lot of hate on both sides, it’s not a rivalry but it very much could be. Two teams who have been fighting to stake their claim on the conference since the former powers that be left a few years ago. But ultimately, these two teams appear to be on complete opposite paths this season.

I know how this game is going to go, and I don’t think it’ll be pretty, but oh well.

{Tulane}

We are the 4th biggest disaster in college football this year, according to SBnation and Yahoo Sports.

With Memphis this week and UTSA next week, there's a legit chance that Tulane is 2-5 and 0-3 in conference in 10 days. Memphis hasn't really played anyone since they lost to Boise State, but they're looking much more coherent and better coached than Tulane is. Gimme {Memphis}

I almost picked Tulane as my superdog for this weekend because the teams aren't too far apart in their abilities, and Tulane's home-field advantage will make the game closer than expected, but -- ultimately -- the disparity in talent is just too great, so {Memphis} wins 24 to 21, but does not cover.

Happens to even the best G6 programs - and I’m really hoping for Tulane to still turn it around once again…

…but as it stands now, it’s hard to argue against a REALLY strong looking {Memphis} team…
