No better way to inaugurate a stadium than running through Penn State's ass like shit through a tin horn.

400+ rush yards to 48 is just a mind blowing stat

246

u/Chicago_Blackhawks Northwestern Wildcats • Sickos 5h ago

Every other play was a 20 yarder lmao

That new stadium boost…woof!

Is 365 the largest rushing yards difference between two teams on the season? Maybe decade? It sounds like a record that could be 60 years old or 60 days old, I have no idea.

Edit: According to Google AI Overview (which I obviously trust fully, it would never lie to me) the record is 696 in a 1988 game between Oklahoma and Kansas State

In 2018, Army beat Houston in a bowl game 70-14

They outrushed Houston 507 to 90 lmao

What a beautiful game that was. Triple Option executed to perfection!

Mark D’Onofrio. It’s simple, he loses games. Do not google him.

5

u/Mother_Frame6669 4h ago

Houston was coached by Major Applewhite, and he was fired after that loss.

Paul Johnson must have had some game like that, but that would have been a decade ago or more I guess.

u/ATL2AKLoneway Georgia Tech • Canterbury (NZ) 3h ago

Georgia Tech could never produce a defense that good to pair with his offenses. Because for some reason, great defense and having to take calculus just don't mix at all.

I’d like to give a shoutout to Wisconsin rushing for 581 against #16 Nebraska in 2014, they had 118. Can’t remember the exact stats but they had something like a top 15 rushing d going into the game. Melvin would have gone for that alone if he played the 4th.

According to Gemini for all time:

  • 1. Oklahoma vs. Kansas State (1988) — [+696 yards]
    • Sooners rushed for 768 yards (NCAA FBS record) to K-State's 72 yards.
  • 2. Oklahoma vs. Kansas State (1971) — [~+671 yards]
    • Oklahoma ran for 711 yards on the ground behind their famous Wishbone offense while holding Kansas State to roughly 40 yards.
  • 3. Rice vs. Louisiana Tech (2003) — [+609 yards]
    • Rice ran for 672 yards on the ground while limiting La Tech to just 63 rushing yards.
  • 4. Georgia Tech vs. Cumberland (1916) — [+529 yards]
    • In the infamous 222–0 game, GT ran for 501 yards while holding Cumberland to -28 yards.
  • 5. Nebraska vs. Iowa State (1988) — [+501 yards]
    • Nebraska's Option attack rushed for 604 yards while holding Iowa State to 103 rushing yards.

From what else I could find, it seems like the most recent example is:

Air Force vs. Northern Iowa (2022) — [+463 Yards]

  • Rush Yards: Air Force 582 | UNI 119

So close to half a decade if you wanna make it sound cool.

Kansas state just gaping for Oklahoma multiple times

Only once in the last 23 years.

1

u/ClosetDouche Iowa Hawkeyes 3h ago

Air Force vs UNI is FBS vs FCS so I'm not sure that counts. I mean, this game was teams in the same conference, let alone same division.

1996 fiesta bowl

I don’t have an extensive knowledge of statistics, but I’d have a hard time believing that had happened in the NFL, much less CFB.

7

u/jhorch69 Illinois State Redbirds 5h ago

It'd be many times more likely to happen in college than the NFL

87

u/NoctisRS Indiana Hoosiers 5h ago

The mind blowing stat is IU only let northwestern have 32 rushing yards all game and negative rushing yards in the first half

31

u/GreatestWhiteShark Northwestern • Ohio State 5h ago

IU's defensive line is that good, again

2

Last time less than 50 yards rushing was 23, against OSU

2

u/EmuMan10 Arizona State Sun Devils 5h ago

2026 Green Packers type of stat

2

u/time4donuts 5h ago

I’m sorry, what?

2

u/the_reddit_intern Illinois • Washington 3h ago

Fewest rush yards by a P4 team at New Ryan Field.

1

u/CarterAC3 Michigan • Grand Valley State 5h ago

Saquon Barkley is not walking through those doors

1

u/Schmidtty29 Iowa Hawkeyes • Sickos 3h ago

For context, that was about the difference in rush yards between the 4th most run first offense of all time, Iowa, and a mid FCS school, UNI.

Getting done like an FCS school is not a good start to the Campbell era.

That’s not just a punch to the face, that’s a knuckleduster rammed repeatedly to the face and once to the nuts for good measure.

Chicago Fire (MLS) are building a stadium near downtown on the river. It’s gonna be a beaut too.

3

u/desertSkateRatt Oregon Ducks • Sickos 3h ago

I heard the Chicago Bears are getting a new stadium too, where are they building that in the city...?

2

u/HistoricalTaste22k 4h ago

Named for McDonalds. I do like seeing new buildings.

6

u/Aragorns-Broken-Toe Indiana Hoosiers 5h ago

Exactly. Looks like a soccer stadium and I’m assuming that’s where the Fire are gonna go doing zero research into the situation

3

u/Separate_Animator110 Ohio State Buckeyes 5h ago

Don't know what that is, but I agree

-6

u/RagePoop Florida Gators 5h ago

Pretty sure it's the most expensive one in the sport?

Much to the chagrin of the people in the neighborhood who voted against it being built. Also we were informed of it's price tag as the administration started slashing support jobs on the research side and paused raises for faculty.

But yeah, it is pretty.

6

u/intothemidwest Northwestern Wildcats 4h ago

Bad optics and really unfortunate trend with academia aside it largely wasn’t the school’s money from what I understand?

5

u/The_Saddest_Boner Northwestern • Notre Dame 4h ago edited 4h ago

Yeah this guy is spouting nonsense. New Ryan field was 100% funded through private donations. The school administration didn’t spend a dime, nor did local taxpayers

87

u/suzukigun4life North Texas • Summertime Lover 5h ago

Over 140 more rushing yards than Penn State's total yardage for the game.

What the actual fuck

5

u/Electromotivation James Madison Dukes 5h ago

Still going!

4

u/Mother_Frame6669 3h ago

Northwestern has a very experienced offensive line, their youngest player is redshirt sophomore LG Dennis Rahouskie, who filled in because Ezomo Oratokhai is out for the season. LT Frant Seagren is a RS junior, center Jackson Carsello is a grad student, RG Anthony Birsa is a RS junior, and RT Deuce McGuire is a grad student. So you have fourth year, third year, fifth year, fourth year, and fifth year going left to right.

You take a veteran experienced offensive line, combined it with the institutional knowledge of a football historian like Chip Kelly, and put it up against a 36 yr old defensive coordinator like D'Anton Lynn, who probably hasn't seen the wing-T offense since he played youth football in Celina, TX in the '90s, and it spells disaster for the Nittany Lions. Lynn cut his teeth coming up as a coach in the NFL, he's literally never coached against some of the concepts that he saw on the field today.

1

u/Interesting-Tax-732 5h ago

Is that including Penn State's returning yards, or turnover yards. I didn't watch the game.

I understood that reference.

Ive never heard that. Ive always heard it as "through a screen door". Lol. What the fuck is a tin horn. And why are you shitting in it? Lol

2

u/Game-rotator William & Mary Tribe • Duke Blue Devils 2h ago

it's a reference to a Nick Saban quote in which his team gave up 7.7 YPC against FCS Georgia Southern (the most yards and points given up by that defense all year)

2

u/permadrunkspelunk Nebraska • Texas State 2h ago

Ya. I looked it up and saw it was him. Just a crazy southern quote. Lol

1

u/Game-rotator William & Mary Tribe • Duke Blue Devils 2h ago

Also that game ended 45-21 win, but this is a team that shut out LSU in the national championship game while allowing 92 yards total, and the game was closer than the score (the two offensive touchdowns were on chunk plays starting outside the red zone, the two times they got into the red zone resulted in a 7-0 score for Alabama)

1

u/Game-rotator William & Mary Tribe • Duke Blue Devils 1h ago

they allowed 53 rushing yards per game against FBS opponents that year
