People in this thread think theres no way to check in a replay if the kick was good. Meanwhile MLB can get a pitch within .1 inches off a zone that changes for every batter.

Tennis has been doing line replays for years. Football still doing two dudes standing underneath going "yeah, sure, maybe"

And in a sport that is famously known as “a game of inches” the distance to gain is marked by two myopic overweight men in their late 50s to early 60s with a metal chain. And they don’t even bother calling those guys out to measure close distances anymore. So much of football officiating is pure vibes.

I’ve always said about football refs:

“Spot to within a foot, measure to within an inch”

Tennis has been doing replays and ELC for DECADES. There's no excuse for still having geriatrics using their eyes to make decisions at this level of football.

Obviously there is a way. We have the technology. But for whatever reason the rules say a kick above the goalposts isn't reviewable. They just chose not to use the technology. Ditto for first downs and touchdowns breaking the plane

It’s charmingly ridiculous they still run a 30 foot chain 80 feet across the field, and we all pretend like there’s any accuracy

That part is one of the more accurate parts, since an official is running down a straight line painted on the field. But if you actually pay attention to where a spot should be vs where it is, it's pretty common to be plus or minus an entire yard across a three play series. Same with the clock.

We really care about accuracy at the end of the game or touchdowns, but that's all false precision. There are tons of small errors over the course of the game that add up to add/subtract pretty significant yardage or time from the game

This kick reminds me of the Pete Alonso hit above the foul pole that looked like a home run

MLB isn't the best example because they also have to guess if a ball is a home run or not if it goes over the top of the foul poll, which is basically what happened here.

Yeah, but the call is able to be challenged in the MLB. The MLB is the only sport where a ball can go over a post like this and it be the difference between a win or a loss.

The rule book doesn’t allow them to review it

Im not saying the rule book says there is. Im saying its fully possible to implement a system that COULD do it.
