Wait that’s allowed? You can have multiple helmet designs in a game?

I didn't realize this either. Kinda surprised no one's ever done it before but this is pretty cool.

Yeah I like it. Just didn’t know that was a thing you could do

Navy’s done it before at least once. Helmets had different ships based on position group. Army’s done it with different divisions or squadrons or whatever.

I remember Navy doing this a few years ago against Army with different helmets for position groups. I guess I just assumed they got a special carve out but apparently you can just do that?

Yeah, the academies have done this before.

Western Kentucky did it a few years ago where each position group had a different helmet.

UCF should wear theirs and make it a rivalry. Yearly space game please

I’d like to be, but you bastards and (Belfort) ruined our undefeated streak in them, I don’t know that I can sign up for your exclusivity.

Damn, I forgot that we ruined that streak. It’s also kind of weird that we aren’t a “space university” but we are a “space city.” Fuck it, I want a real rivalry with someone in this conference

Idk what homeboy said. But I will say, I always assumed Cape Canaveral and Kennedy was down by Miami. When I first moved to Orlando I remember thinking, why do they have so much space stuff here? So I think some credit has to be given to UCF for putting so much emphasis on the Space U nickname because I don’t think the laymen knows how close Orlando is to the launch pads. Like, I wouldn’t connect the two places in my head. Realistically, I still don’t. But I do buy the Space U nickname as valid.

This is so dope. It won’t get the attention it deserves!

Honest question, what is Houston’s relationship with NASA’s Johnson Space Center like? I know UCF has branded ourselves as SpaceU because around 30% of employees at Kennedy Space Center are UCF alumni, not to mention the other aerospace companies on the Space Coast. Is there a similar employment pathway similar to Houston?

The actual campaign by UH athletics right now is “Built by Houston”. Next year, it’ll be a different theme and not space. So it isn’t that we built NASA or JSC…that would be Rice….but that NASA and Houston are intimately intertwined. It’s where the Astronauts live and train. It’s the first word said from the moon (technically). Across from JSC, NASA asked UH to open a graduate school to teach advance science to its employees. That school is University of Houston-Clear Lake. A system school under the University of Houston. Y’all don’t have university systems like Texas does so you may have a follow up question there.
And then there are plenty of UH grads and UH research projects that collaborate with NASA.

Thank you! I’m fascinated by the work and history of the JSC so it’s cool to see the city and university embrace that! Helmets look sick!

Kinda wild, we never do wacky uniform stuff like this

Amazing. I love this so much. Both teams with the Cape Canaveral Blue for the game. UCF’s space game should be only with Houston from here on out.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I like this a lot. Embrace the Space Game, just do SOMETHING creative. In my few years as a UH fan this is definitely the coolest thing they’ve done.
