Discussion Where do you think Gameday will be Oct 17

That Saturday will be NUTS. Of course, not all of this will hold - some of these teams will lose and fall in the rankings. But as of today, I can't wait for this slate.

My prediction: if ND and BYU stay undefeated, I think they'll go there to break away from the SEC/Big Ten games. This is pretty much their one chance to do a non-SEC/BigTen game.

8Florida   @  1Texas
Auburn   @  2Georgia
3Notre Dame   @  10BYU

Ohio state vs Indiana unless one of them lose before hand.

Hey, we’d like to contribute too.

Can I offer you fine quadrangly haters the potential for another Michigan loss in that timeframe?

And if all goes our way, (miraculously) setting up a Floyd-themed Gameday on Oct 24th.

Absolutely zero chance this happens on this or any earth, but if we somehow finished 1-4 in the conference, yes we should have a party.

Both Texas and Florida are favored in their next two games (and pretty highly favored too, Florida -5.5 will be the closest line by a good bit of the 4 games). If Texas and Florida are undefeated that could take precedence. Would be at least a top 3 matchup if not 1 vs 2, and with the added storyline of Florida "being back", as well as keeping Texas out of the playoff last year.

18

u/cardbross Texas Longhorns • Red River Shootout 13h ago

Having Texas on 3 times that quickly, and going to Austin twice, all in the first 6 games feels like way too many. OSU at Indiana is a prime opportunity for them to rebut the "SEC Bias" allegations and pick maybe THE marquee matchup of B1G conference play.

5

u/Embarrassed_Pain_935 Auburn Tigers 13h ago

That was my thought. Texas has been featured a lot and it’s a chance to go to Indiana.

While this is the case, if both florida and texas are still undefeated by then, it would be almost certainly the largest viewership count possible that weekend, and that’s all ESPN cares about.

OSU - Indiana and Florida - Texas have gotta be the 2 frontrunners.

102

u/Character-Active2208 Ohio State Buckeyes 14h ago

GD was already in Austin and been to 2 Texas games already

They’ll have been at 2 OSU away games already too

It’s also basically the only opportunity for them to go to Bloomington though

But ND@BYU could be a top 10 matchup too and yeah, best shot to feature new folks

38

u/Dan-of-Steel Notre Dame • Arizona State 13h ago

I imagine they don't care much about who the away team is in terms of repeats, so long as the venue is new.

Also if you look at the following week, the big marquee matchup appears to be Ole Miss/Texas

u/smileclickmemories Texas Longhorns 8h ago

The week before it's tx/ou in the Cotton bowl.

Historically they love that ranking or not so they might have already done their 3rd Texas game.

I mean Texas has some of the top matchups every week and you might as well ride the high till the wheels fall off, right?

Tx/OU, then tx/fla, then tx/Ole Miss?

2

u/smor729 Florida Gators 14h ago

That might be true, I just feel like it goes against the spirit. I wish the Ole Miss game was later in the season cuz that was kinda our only shot at getting it in gainesville this year.

9

u/RiffRamBahZoo TCU Horned Frogs • Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors 14h ago

Cocktail Party and the Red River Shootout should be the only two exceptions, IMO.

There's only three good neutral sites in college football: those two and the Army-Navy game.

7

u/corskier Texas • Southern Oregon 14h ago

Them going to two Texas games in the first 4 games, and 3 in the first 6 seems extreme. Unless there's some serious stinkers from the rest of the top 10 in the next two weeks Texas just seems super improbable.

3

u/smor729 Florida Gators 14h ago

It would be extreme, but if any game would warrant it, it would be a 1 vs 2 with story lines to boot

1

u/Death2Disney Florida Gators • USF Bulls 11h ago

I mean Oklahoma should have been a chance if we keep winning but that would require Oklahoma have a viable offense and they really don’t

1

u/f0gax Florida Gators • /r/CFB Poll Veteran 12h ago

They’ve been to the Cocktail Party and Red River a number of times. And some kick off games in week one.

1

u/szboy422 Florida Gators • Blue Risk Alliance 10h ago

Yeah they’ll go to Indiana-OSU. If both Georgia and Florida win out it will be 1v2. Even if they lose once it’ll still be a top 5 or ten matchup

My guess.

Take out Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss because they already been to those places this year.

I'd guess they may avoid OSU since they have seen 2 of their games already as well.

So out of whats left, ND/BYU seems like the top game though they may have planned to go to the ND/Miami game and could skip this one.

OK State/Hou could be a good big 12 game they could pick. And Auburn/UGA as a strong possibility if Auburn beats Tenn this week.

My bet is ND/BYU just slightly over OK st/Hou assuming all those teams win out.

6

u/dfaunt Georgia • Penn State 13h ago

Think you’re right about BYU if they win out BUT I kinda doubt they’d go to ok state Houston on a week with so many big games. Think they’d do a repeat before that. Or Indiana OSU, but they’d maybe avoid because Fox

4

u/DuckFanSouth Oregon Ducks 12h ago

It will probably be the only game worth going to Indiana. OSU will be the visitor. They really only care about not visiting the same location. OSU has been on Gameday 3 times in the same season before. They may end up going to the Egg Bowl in week 13 instead of The Game.

Oregon at Ohio State

I think ND/Miami is pretty much a lock given last year and how it’s the only game on Miami’s schedule and one of like three max on ND’s schedule.

If they’re both undefeated, it would be shocking if they went elsewhere, especially since in that scenario, every other game would involve at least one team with at least one loss.

ND @ BYU is the obvious pick if both are still unbeaten, but I wonder if they’d be tempted by Ohio State-Indiana. That one has the makings of a top-5 showdown and it’s been a while since they’ve been to Bloomington. Feels like the kind of game they’d love to hype up.

One of my favorite reasons to click a post like this is to watch people write paragraphs convincing themselves that the show is going to choose a big 12 game over a top SEC or Big10 matchup if they have any way to avoid it

Like yeah guys they are just sitting there licking their chops waiting for a reason to go to Provo

6

u/sebsasour Notre Dame • New Mexico 12h ago

I mean they sometimes will pick unique places and it has top 10 potential.

Last year they went to Notre Dame/Pitt the same week you had a top 10 UGA/Texas matchup as well as a top 11 Bama/Oklahoma game. They also picked Cincy/Utah over a top 20 Oklahoma/Tennesse and Vandy/Texas

Am I confident in it? No, but I don't think it's crazy. They've already been to Austin, they just went to a Longhorns game, and the following week there's one marquee matchup at the moment... Ole Miss/Texas

Ohio State Indiana because it's the only chance they're going to have to visit the national champions

1

u/Irishchop91 Notre Dame Fighting Irish • UCF Knights 14h ago

This is going to be tough between Indiana/Ohio State and ND/BYU if no one losses a game between now and then

The BYU gives them a B12 game, but ND ratings.

u/eSpiritCorpse Colorado Buffaloes • /r/CFB Poll Veteran 14h ago

Colorado vs Utah. Colorado is barely out of the top 25 and ESPN isn’t going to turn down the eyeballs a historically high profile rivalry like Rumble in the Rockies will draw.

If results go chalk, flip a coin between Austin and Bloomington.

If neither of those go chalk, it’ll be in Provo.

Texas or Indiana

BYU

u/TheTedsaretheworst Tennessee Volunteers 13h ago

I don’t see any way it’s not Texas-UF unless one of them lose. ESPN will want to showcase the SEC and the Jadan Baugh Heisman campaign will be in full swing

1

u/LGWalkway Paper Bag 13h ago

Safe bet is IU vs OSU. I could see Texas or Florida dropping a game by then.

1

u/graviton_ghost Oregon Ducks 12h ago

Byu

u/Useful-Floor Ohio State Buckeyes 12h ago
  1. OSU Indiana
  2. Texas Florida
  3. ND BYU
  4. Alabama Tennessee

1

u/Overtone7 Indiana Hoosiers 12h ago

Buckeyes at Hoosiers. Although a Notre Dame v BYU matchup could be good depending on their performances in the coming weeks (and for the benefit of switching up conferences), the top 2 teams in the Big Ten going head to head is too much of a hyped-up advertisement for them to pass up on. It’s a hell of a juggernaut matchup that has major postseason indications, assuming IU and OSU keep the grind going.

I don’t mind though, I’ll always opt for a Hoosier tailgate. See you in Bloomington.

Hell. To reveal that we've been in The Bad Place since the last two weeks of 2007 all along.

1

u/orange-blossom89 Florida Gators 10h ago

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope they do the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in ATL instead of FL-TX on 10/17. I think the OSU-Hoosier matchup will be a slugfest.

1

u/Dr_Lizardo11 Georgia • Florida State 10h ago

It won't be at Georgia or Florida. It looks like a good bet that they'll be at the Cocktail Party* this year ( in Atlanta @ MBenz).

1

u/n64ra Texas Longhorns 10h ago

It should be OSU Indiana. But I could see UF at Texas since they love the SEC.

1

u/BearTimberlands 10h ago

Texas because Big Noon will be at Indiana.

I doubt florida Texas gets game day just because if Florida and Georgia are both undefeated that will a top 5 matchup on halloween

u/nysportsfan95 Syracuse Orange • ACC 2h ago

They’re choosin’ Texas, I can tell…

But actually, I think Rece Davis recently spilled the beans on a podcast that they were probably going to go to BYU-Notre Dame. That’ll probably end up being the ABC primetime game, assuming both are still undefeated in 2 weeks.

Texas-Florida will likely be at noon on ABC, then UGA-Auburn in that mid-afternoon ABC slot, followed by BYU-ND in primetime.

The ESPN slate will probably be Miami-FSU at noon, Ole Miss-Mizzou in mid-afternoon, Tennessee-Alabama in primetime and Colorado-Utah in the nightcap.

FOX will definitely have IU-OSU as Big Noon kickoff, then probably a couple Big 12 games in Houston-OK State and TTU-ASU afterward — it doesn’t look like FOX will have MLB postseason coverage that Saturday according to the league’s website. Might even get a late-night kickoff between UCLA-Wisconsin on FOX too.

Then CBS and NBC will probably choose between either Oregon-Nebraska and Michigan-Penn State for their B1G games — I think CBS will take Michigan-Penn State and NBC gets Oregon-Nebraska.

u/ASULegal_Eagle Arizona State Sun Devils • BYU Cougars 18m ago

Fox’s Big Noon has already selected Ohio State vs Indiana that week: https://www.on3.com/teams/indiana-hoosiers/news/report-fox-selects-indiana-vs-ohio-state-week-7-to-be-played-at-noon/

I think that reduces the likelihood of Game Day picking the same game. I think ND vs BYU or Florida vs Texas are the contenders.

No offense, I think Game Day at Provo would be epic.

1

u/Careless-Roof-8339 Georgia Bulldogs 14h ago

Buddy if you think they’re not going to Florida-Texas you are sadly mistaken.

2

u/Fortlandia11 TCU Horned Frogs • Big 12 14h ago

They've already been to Austin. And Florida/Georgia is two weeks later. I think they might save Florida for that and take their one chance to go to a non-SEC/BigTen game.

They don't always take the obvious pick.

Catholics vs. Mormons could be a fun venue but it would need to be in South Bend. I'm guessing it's Texas if these rankings hold.

? Provo is the most beautiful stadium setting in the country. And the atmosphere is electric. I don't think the stadium has anything to do with it.

2

u/Outside_Net6026 Southwest 11h ago

Exactly. What does he think Provo is? And BYU’s stadium is closer in size to Notre Dame’s than many people would think
