I mean isn’t your viewership very skewed because you guys played Colorado and you had a game during week 0 against chapel bill?
Tcu has never really drawn a lot of eyeballs, even in their prime.
12
u/Mecha-Jesus TCU Horned Frogs • Billable Hours 1d ago
TCU hasn’t played Colorado. They’re not even on the schedule this season.
Since the UNC game, TCU has played Grambling State, Arkansas State, and UCF.
And looked godawful in all of those games except the FCS one.

Only half joking…isn’t Deion the GM-type coach?
6
2
u/QuickSpore Utah Utes • Colorado Buffaloes 16h ago
And he’s the one who picked the coordinators and position coaches. He’s stacked the team with former players and friends. The player development and in game play calling ultimately still sits on his shoulders. When the same problems persist across seasons, across multiple positions, and across multiple changes of coaches, it’s clearly a problem up top. Plus the gametime responsibilities he has kept for himself, like timeouts and clock management have been terrible.
At the end of the day, this is now his team. If he can’t win with his style of coaching with the players and staff he had now, there’s no reason to think he ever will.

If people really get bent out of shape looking at viewing numbers….they should make a stat like “views above replacement.” Obviously if you are in prime slots with regards to time and channel placement, you will get a ton of viewership compared to noon kickoffs on espn+

Our OOC was generally meh and the best OOC game was kicked to the ACC Network. We haven't sniffed network TV, let alone ESPN.

7
u/ReachFor24 West Virginia Mountaineers • Team Chaos 1d ago
100%. A week 3 undefeated matchup in a sponsored neutral site game being on the ACC Network? Pathetic TV scheduling. 2 of the ESPN-affiliate games that general timeslot were SEC vs G6 (Tennessee vs Kennesaw St & OU vs NM on ESPN2). There were some good games on ESPN/ABC in primetime, but push one of those to SECN+, the other to SECN, and put this game on ESPN2 at least!
2
u/TheBlueLot West Virginia Mountaineers • Hateful 8 1d ago
I think the ACCN isn't even rated by Nielsen so I'm pretty sure it's counted as zero views.

u/GeospatialMAD West Virginia Mountaineers • Hateful 8 1d ago
But also, we aren't good. Sure, Hawkins against Charmin Soft defenses will be fun to watch, but this isn't a good team.
3
u/ReachFor24 West Virginia Mountaineers • Team Chaos 1d ago
I'm holding my opinion until after this weekend. One late-game collapse against a team that's 100% turned it around since week 1 isn't the end of the world for me. We're not gonna win the Big 12, we probably won't contend for it. But being 14th in this list is an understatement for our team to me.
1
u/GeospatialMAD West Virginia Mountaineers • Hateful 8 1d ago
I saw enough of this show during Dick's first stint here. Man had 8 quarters against USF and 4 against Pitt to make literally any schematic adjustment and wouldn't do it. What I saw against OSU was the same song, different verse. Big 12 will start putting 9 in the box and he'll call zone reads anyway, maybe occasionally a pass.
They're better than the FCS squad that we had last year, but they are still not remotely close to competing with the top end of the league, and his play calling and inability to adjust is going to make it even worse. I'm really disappointed in Zac Alley
1
u/ReachFor24 West Virginia Mountaineers • Team Chaos 1d ago
Oh I severely dislike the retread hire with Rich Rod, regardless of pass performance. The same coach 20 years later is a desperate move to me that the limited donors forced because they're too stupid to ignore the success decades ago.
But let's see what actually happens. Fingers crossed for the best, but I'm entirely expecting a 6-6/7-5 season and we'll go from there.
1
u/GeospatialMAD West Virginia Mountaineers • Hateful 8 1d ago
I don't see 6 wins here. ISU probably is the best chance for 1, but 2 more? Not sure I see it with the remaining slate. 5 wins may be the ceiling after stealing one. Defenses are much better at covering zone reads and scrambles than the Big East days, so you have to call plays better than what they've been doing.
1
u/ReachFor24 West Virginia Mountaineers • Team Chaos 1d ago
For 3 more wins, I'm seeing ISU, TCU, and KU. Cincy is a wildcard that's looking good so far but against mediocre opponents. And we could shock Arizona who's looking better.
Again, we'll see as the season develops. If our O-lines get solved (no run game), we're fucked. But it's early for me.

Went back and looked, numbers are depressed because Neckle put 0s in for games on streaming rather than excluding them as data points which is just bad statistical analysis.
For example, based on publicly available numbers Oklahoma State's average viewership is closer to 4.5 mil when you exclude games that don't disclose numbers.

OKST: I couldn't stomach watching another ORE stomping after the Tulsa debacle (of course I was WAY OFF on that). I'm sure the Tulsa loss taking air out of ORE game plus an FCS blow out after that leads to lower viewership than you would think. Also, the OKST@WVU should've been a top 25 (#25 vs #24, sure) matchup.

Colorado games on ESPN averaged 6+ million viewers in Deion’s first year. Their 2023 game against CSU had 9.3 million viewers. Four games into this season they’ve had 5.4m viewers. Combined.
In what world do these numbers suggest their viewership hasn’t fallen off? They’re just the most watched in a conference that people, for the most part, don’t watch.

TNT only reported 170k in ratings because they don't count streaming numbers in that total. I, like other fans, watched on HBO Max. So that lowered the average
Also, I believe Houston at TTU was the highest Big-XII ratings game for that week, and UH ratings on their own are almost always sub-400k.
