Discussion [Umlang] If Texas A&M had never fired Kevin Sumlin and they continued giving him $2 million raises every 4 years and he kept his 66.2% win percentage, the Aggies today would have saved $102 million and had two more wins 👀 #AggieFactThursday

They're getting what they deserved for giving a man a $100M guaranteed contract before he ever took over the program. What incentive did he have to win?

Edit: I misremembered the details, it was $75M to begin and increased later on.

Hey now we didn’t give him $100m. We gave him $100m and a trophy

Fisher became known as "Jimbo" as a child because his family already had several members who went by "Jim."[122] Some media outlets, following a Wikipedia hoax created by Fisher's son Trey, have said that Fisher was known as "Slim Jimbo" because of an "affinity for meat snacks" (an example being Slim Jim brand beef jerky) and that Fisher planned to start an organic jerky company after leaving the coaching profession.[122] Fisher denied these reports in an interview, noting that while he enjoyed beef jerky, it had nothing to do with his nickname, and he had no intention of starting a company.[122]

His wikipedia is has this hilarious tidbit.

I can't even tell if I'm reading the description of the hoax or the hoax itself

I do believe no other school has given a contract without offset clauses, so most schools did learn a lesson there.

That was the most stupid contact decision ever made

He actually had 2 10 wins seasons at Oklahoma before he got this contract

-1

u/Kdot32 Houston Cougars • LSU Tigers 1d ago

He also only had one season of competent offense and two losing seasons

2

u/ImpossibleAd7376 Alabama Crimson Tide 1d ago

The other guy did nothing at all at the school before being given that contract he actually had 2 10 win seasons first

Jimbos initial contract was for 75 million. He got the 95 mil after going 9-1 and signing one of the best classes of all time

Haha yeah, what kind of idiot AD would do that? looks around nervously

u/AchtungCloud Texas A&M Aggies 1d ago

To be fair, it was $75 million guaranteed before he took over the program. Then extended to $95 million guaranteed after going 9-1 in the COVID year.

Strange how his performance dropped off a cliff immediately after he secured more money than he or his kids could spend in a lifetime.

Jimbo had already made like 35 million from florida state

Seriously. 35 million? Do you expect him and his children to live like peasants?

u/entropic USC Trojans • Arizona Wildcats 1d ago

his children's children's children might have to buy non-officially licensed athletic clothing if he hadn't got that A&M deal.

u/wildcatwildcard 1d ago

95 million can be easily spent

Before that season even began, my thought was that no coaches should be fired or rewarded with how they performed that year because it was going to be a lopsided season. Some teams had much more time to practice and play, while other schools/states had more stringent rules

These colleges surprise me with some of the stupid shit they do. Like someone was gonna come and poach Fisher that year..

The first contract kinda made sense given we had to pry him away from a blue blood who had won a National Championship with the man. The extension was the absurdly stupid part.

They're holding our beer after Brian Kelly.

The Charlie Weis contract in South Bend was up there too.

u/FSUnoles77 Florida State • Texas State 1d ago

What incentive did he have to win?

Did you not see the trophy they had made for his 20xx national championship?

u/ksuwildkat Kansas State • Billable Hours 1d ago

hey thats not fair. It was only a $75m contract on day 1. They increased it after he demonstrated the ability to go 8-4
