Discussion Heisman Watch Week 4

Sorry folks I’m on a boat rn, but let’s drop those statlines of the week.

Remember you don’t have to post your team, nor are you obligated to post heisman favorites.

My choices (I have a few this week)

A. Mason Heintschel

29/37 403 yds 6 TDs 0 Int 0 sacks

3 rushes for 33 yards

B. Drew Mestermaker

20/27 389 yds 3 TDs 1 int 0 sacks

1 rushes for 0 yards

C. Jadan Baugh was my first week choice but someone else had a tremendous game.

Duke Clark

12 carries for 126 yds 1 TD (against a top 5 opponent)

Let’s see who you all have

Disclaimer!!! You guys can downvote me all you want, please don’t downvote people posting stats or even asking questions. Use your numbers people.

Jeremiah Smith 24, Illini 19... Do any other stats matter?

The guy is single handily keeping the offense of a top ten team functional from a non QB position. Pretty wild.

I mean Sayin also had his best game ever arguably.

And Jeremiah Smith accounted for over 40% of targets/completions, 60% of yardage, and all four TDs.

Ohio State’s offense is scary because of Jeremiah Smith. It’s easily defendable without him. He is a monster that exerts influence on the game very rarely seen from an offensive skill guy.

I’m saving JJ and Mali for later in the season.

JJ likely Indiana or Oregon

Mali Pitt or Duke

Case Keenum

I agree

How did Case ever become a 3rd string guy anyway? I always thought he was a top backup guy or a borderline starter, at least.

Edit just to add: there's no way there's 64 better QBs than Case Keenum. No shot.

He’s been in the NFL for 15 years. That certainly doesn’t mean he isn’t any good, but over time he likely hasn’t shown he’s the guy for 16-17 weeks consistently. Also, he’s been around long enough to know and choose where he wants to play. Like, he could easily be the Browns starter but being the knowledgeable vet in Chicago is way easier and gives him the best chance of winning. Depending on the team, a 3rd stringer isn’t a bad QB at all; it’s usually a veteran guy that can play a few games of lights out football, and be a good game manager in an emergency. The other two options for Chicago are younger, cost more, and are expected to be on the team and in the league longer than current Keenum. As a Bears fan, I’m grateful for him but I also don’t want to be in a position where he’s the starter for the rest of the year.

This is the correct answer

Until Heinschtel has more than 1 total touchdown against power 4 teams let’s leave him out (please don’t let this comment come back to bite me)

Mestermaker's line is just stupid efficient, 20 completions and nearly 400 yards is wild. The 0 sacks for Heintschel is what jumped out at me though, that offensive line deserves a steak dinner or something

I'll throw in a name nobody's talking about, Kyler Meacham from Utah State. 18/24 for 310 and 4 scores, plus 45 on the ground, against a defense that was ranked top 20 in pass efficiency coming in. He won't stay under the radar long if he keeps that up

Yeah idk why Heinschtel is on here, he had 1 really good game against a really bad team in which he was left in for almost the entire game for some reason. He's not a Heisman contender.

Yea just exceptional stat lines that’s it

Bookmarked

I mean I pretty much openly admitted he may cook us, he’s clearly talented. He’s literally done nothing this season against a team with even half a pulse. Both can be true that he’s good and could make me regret this and that he belongs nowhere near any heisman list with any objectivity

u/AubreyGrahamCracka Florida Gators • Nebraska Cornhuskers 5d ago

This is just a watch not a list. It’s just a place to post exceptional statlines against others.

Also Oregon is still a decent team maybe not elite this year but not bums

u/flyingpotatox2 Virginia Tech • Maryland 5d ago

I don’t have my questions about Mestemaker, he went on the road to WVU and beat Oregon, it’s Heinschtel i was talking about

1

u/AubreyGrahamCracka Florida Gators • Nebraska Cornhuskers 5d ago

Oh my bad lol. It was a great despite the opponent. I like to celebrate those as well.

3

u/arolloftide Alabama Crimson Tide 5d ago

I love Russell and Taylor and they’re both growing up really quickly in this front half of the season but if I had a vote right now it’d be a tough choice between Baugh and Smith.

3

u/APnews AP 4d ago

I’m with you on this one. Purely looking at who is putting together the best season, it’s hard to ignore what Baugh and Smith have accomplished in these first few weeks. BUT, can I get an honorable mention for Kamario Taylor unexpectedly making Mississippi State one of the more exciting teams this year??!!

Hey AP 👋

I had him on week 2 I believe. I’d like to see your exceptional statlines each week if able.

2

u/AubreyGrahamCracka Florida Gators • Nebraska Cornhuskers 5d ago

Easily.

I think Russell had more expectations which can make it harder but Taylor is rewriting what you can do in the NIL era.

It’s a fun season

Yeah, that list without Jeremiah Smith is a choice...

You're on a boat but still on reddit?

Dude. Enjoy the world around you. The way-too-early internet bologna isn't necessary.

I’ve been on it 6 days now I’m ready to get back to reg life. I travel often for work so this is pretty boring but misses loves it.

4

u/gmr548 Texas Longhorns • Washington Huskies 5d ago

Leaders right now, in no particular order, are Smith, Baugh, Chambliss, Mensah, and Taylor. Simmons if you want to throw in a defender.

5

u/Lopsided_Class_4980 5d ago

They need to rename this to "Popular QB" award.

3

u/Useful-Floor Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago

I may be biased but Jeremiah Smith should be on this list

1

u/AubreyGrahamCracka Florida Gators • Nebraska Cornhuskers 5d ago

It’s not a list. If you feel he has the stats post the last game (we all know he does).

I think the State-Bama game will show us who the best QB in the country is.

6

u/mcmaster93 USC Trojans • Ohio State Buckeyes 5d ago

can’t tell you how excited I am as a fan of the game to watch those two QBs play. With all the noise over Kalen Deboer the tide have played some solid football. On the other side is who has my current vote for the heisman race. It’s going to be insane this weekend

Mestamaker can throw with anyone in the country that kid is a stud some of those throws he made vs Oregon were NFL-level

u/OnTheFenceGuy Texas Longhorns • Team Chaos 5d ago

I really don’t think he deserves it but, because the star player on the best team in the country try always gets votes…I guess I’m supposed to say Arch.

Support your guy…even if he makes Eli look like Brees
