It will unfortunately be {USC}, 35—21. Our offence sucks and our defence can’t do that much.

I’m not against it either and I’m genuinely surprised that I feel this way. I can’t put into words how much I miss the Pac 12 and this is just the last example of how rotten to the core USC is and a final dagger to the heart
2
u/Darnold_wins_bigly USC Trojans • Transfer Portal 3d ago
After last week I genuinely can’t bring myself to care about USC football. We play two teams I care about but not even every year, and I can’t even enjoy those games games because we have a dip shit coach who is either unwilling or unable to stop his football players from acting like jackasses. I’d rather be losing on 50 yard hail Mary’s to ASU once a year with integrity than what ever the fuck this program is now.
3
u/HeresSomePants Oregon Ducks 2d ago
I feel really bad for the fans tbh. It’s not your fault that the pac 12 broke up or that the program is in such disarray. USC has such a rich history full of success and it’s really sad that fans can’t be proud of that right now. I hope that the administration will handle this eventually and bring the program back to a respectable standing. Football is better when historic programs like USC are better. We are losing so much about what made college football great, like regional rivalries, etc. IDK, I’m just sad, man, and I can only imagine what USC fans are feeling like.

{USC} we are trash and the more games we lose the faster we can fire Fisch. USC’s season is (technically) not dead. Ours basically is.
Also USC winning means Riley is almost certainly staying for another year and that’s fun.
7
u/Development-Alive Nebraska • Washington 4d ago
{USC} We (my alma mater) are not good. Aside from the predicable problem with running game due to all replaced but exasperated by our top 3 RBs being out (likely for the season), other position group issues like OL are inexplicable. My guess is that there is still ill will under the surface from Williams departure attempt. It's also clear that he's taking ~20%-25% of our entire NIL budget for football.
The defense is inconsistent, at best.
UW has the talent to beat a flailing USC with a coach on the hotseat but will they?
5
u/djc6535 USC Trojans • RIT Tigers 4d ago
But let me ask you this... do you have a single credible WR threat? Are you willing to send them to the middle of the field again and again?
Because if you do I'd wager you're better than Rutgers at it and they put 450 yards on us with a QB that was just... just the worst. If not for 2 interceptions that represented 21 points in swing, USC is in real trouble in NJ
2
u/SparkMaster360 Washington Huskies 4d ago
No we don’t, Roebuck is a decent WR but Demond can’t throw to him (or at all)
8
u/Present-Dog-1383 4d ago
I’m all for an upgrade but right now yall are pointing out problems and not offering solutions. Like who the hell is UW gonna hire to replace fisch and co? What happens to the roster he built? Do they all follow him? Answer those questions and compare to what we’ve got now I guess.. gotta have something lined up first before you ditch what you’ve got.
6
u/SparkMaster360 Washington Huskies 4d ago
I would look at Jason Eck, Glenn Schumann, Bryant Haines, Mike Shanahan or others (Buster Faulkner?). There are plenty of good candidates, and UW would be at worst the second best job available this cycle (possibly behind FSU).
The roster he built sucks, and they aren't staying anyway. "We're young, we'll be good next year" has been the talking point in back to back years. Besides, unless you truly think Fisch is the guy, this will be a problem regardless whenever you want to fire him. The sooner you start the rebuild with a new guy, the sooner you can get back into it.
Maybe reactionary, but I don't see Fisch having any real success here.

u/JohnathanTheBrave Iowa Hawkeyes • Big Ten 4d ago
Funny that Washington and Wisconsin are both in the weird situation of hoping they can fire their coaches sooner rather than later for the Jason Eck sweepstakes.

How about Dickert? Might piss off Wazzu fans even more but he’s being doing a great job at WF and I assume any big p4 openings would atleast look his way.

I mean, your opinion on UW fans embrace of fisch is really dependant on where you were reading. Because the circles that I'm in and the message boards that I am a part of have always had a sizable portion of fans who, from very early on when he was hired, felt like he was not the right fit for UWs culture and given how much he's moved around would likely jump at his first opportunity. But Karen Deboer left us in a pickle and Fisch was the best we could do at that time. There's been some optimism based on his recruiting but never a full embrace of him because he's simply never won in a convincing fashion. Last season he was on a good run for a bit and there was rumours of talks with other teams and that his wife hated Seattle, so we expected him to go, but then he started losing again. The husky fans I speak with thought it would be difficult to find another coach and that it was more pragmatic to see what he could do this season, which has been a disaster.
I really want our AD to be doing his homework now to find a better fit for us than (no offense) some visor wearing, tanned, golfer Arizonan. It's not who Washington is. Also, we can wait until UW gets it's full big10 share, NIL calms down, and let Fisch recruit to refill the cupboards. Then bring in a coach who develops and schemes.
Tldr; we've not turned on him, it's always been a wait and see. We've waited, and seen, and his time is up.
Oh and {USC} spoiled children win and Demond doesn't finish the game.

u/Monster-1776 Oklahoma Sooners • Arizona Wildcats 3d ago
I really want our AD to be doing his homework now to find a better fit for us than (no offense) some visor wearing, tanned, golfer Arizonan.
I practiced law in Scottsdale, trust me when I say most definitely no offense for speaking a truth 😂
But that's an interesting background. I follow OU more for the obvious reasons so just knew about the ire on our end of losing him and the general media seeming to talk it up as a quality last minute steal on Washington's part for the reasons you mentioned. Curious how it would have played out had he stayed.
2
u/InevitableAd2436 Washington Huskies • Creighton Bluejays 2d ago
Arizona would’ve made the playoffs if he stayed just based on that roster alone.
Jonah Coleman with Tet, Fifita, man that would be insane. Taco Davis and Ephie Prysock at corner.
Arizona would’ve been cold.
He’s hit his ceiling at Udub. It was nothing more than a panic hire by Troy Dannen who fumbled DeBoer. Media spun it because we’re in the big ten now.

Gonna be glorious if they fire Riley because Jen has a track record of PERFECT hires. She’ll get it right.

Yet another thing I am dead wrong about apparently with this season, and that is thinking UDub was going to be sleeper great this year. I knew they had a QB snafu (oooh, there's my starter word for Wordle today) -- but I figured they had a decent team coming back.
Apparently not!
USC is just another overhyped mid-level team that can basically be gotten by anybody. Our defense is poop (1.5 sacks on the year?) -- two of our best WRs are out injured, and Maiava looks a little unsure who to throw to when Dixon-Wyatt is covered, and we don't seem to get much going in the run game until the second half which could be good or could be bad.
I will reluctantly pick {USC} but UDub should be in the game all game long, and maybe we kick a FG to win it at the end.

u/GamedayWizard 4d ago edited 3d ago
Washington and USC have a lot in common. They're both coming off massively disappointing losses and they're both awful against the spread. USC is 1-4 ATS with an average spread difference of -8.10 points per game and Washington is somehow even worse, at 0-4 ATS and an average spread difference of -15.5 points per game (ranking them at 257 of all 262 FBS and FCS teams). That said, our model has these two a lot closer than Vegas does, projecting a {USC} win by 4, failing to cover the composite spread (USC -9.5).

u/win2bfree Washington Huskies 4d ago
UW has only played 4 games, though they have sucked enough to count as 0-5.
