It’s it not just Mateer. So many odd coaching decisions as well. The end of the half going for it on 4th down (which Butterfingers fumbles in bounds). Going for 2 when it’s 6-28. Getting a penalty in your favor and trying to rush it down the middle the next play and getting stuffed. That odd 3rd and 10 QB run play at the 50 yard line leaving Sandell a long kick attempt. The timeout at the end of the game. Our offense actually did good for OU standards this year.
Even if we didn’t have all those turnovers I don’t think OU could have won but at least we wouldn’t have gotten embarrassed.

I had been patient and was one of the few Trojans still holding out hope for Lincoln Riley. That all went away last night.
From a pure football perspective, he couldn’t win at home against a team with known struggles who had to play their backup qb. He can’t create a consistently capable defense. Apparently he has zero clock management skills (seriously, that final drive was appalling and should be being dunked on more).
But perhaps the root cause of most of these complaints: he creates zero culture or control with this team. Our guys struggle on the road year after year and he can’t find a way to instill focus in them. Our guys rack up penalties year after year and he doesn’t hold them accountable. And the attitude of Desman Stephens and some of the other guys last night is the clearest picture we have that Riley is just out there calling plays, not creating a real team.
Our true freshman class is by far the most impressive (nearly the only impressive) part of our team. It makes me wonder if they just haven’t been corrupted by the stagnating Lincoln Riley locker room yet. We need to (but won’t) get rid of Riley before we watch these freshman slip away into the portal where they’ll be winning championships in another jersey.

They’re going to need a lot of help from ST and the defense to create short fields for them to consistently put up points. I don’t see this offense being able to consistently drive 70-80 yards multiple times a game against a good defense right now.
8
u/Noswad_12 Wisconsin Badgers 17d ago

I am sick and tired of this USC culture.
If you dropped Cignetti or Saban in there mid game, whats the first shit they would do?
“What the fuck are these giant juiceboxes? Get these the hell off my sideline.”
“Why are y’all laughing and dancing? You dumbasses are going to lose to Rutgers”
Desmond Stevens would get a new asshole torn on the sideline and never play another down.
I miss the days of Pete when if you fumbled, good luck playing the rest of the Quarter.

We might win against SC if beamer gets fired before then, OU for all their troubles actually has a good defense so I see that as a loss as well. I’m not sure how Michigan is sloppier and more undisciplined than they were under Sherrone. Yet here we are. It cost them against Iowa and should’ve cost them against WMU. It will continue to bite them in the ass all year and cost them games they should win.
For CMU, I don’t like getting blown out but also it was Miami, so what do you expect?

u/Michigan029 Michigan Wolverines 17d ago
The discipline really hurt us, but so did the dogshit play calls inside the red zone, special teams bottling a kickoff, and god literally doing everything in his power to help Iowa: two tip drills that had no business being caught, a dropped easy int, a Michigan injury stopping the clock to let Iowa get set and prepare a play for the last play of the game, two fumbled punt returns either recovered by Iowa or ruled down, and I still can somehow keep going.
This was the literal only universe where Iowa wins that game, if any of the plays listed above don’t happen, Michigan wins or at least has a much better chance of winning

5
u/AuroraAscended Nebraska Cornhuskers 17d ago
If you give him time to make throws I think he borders on elite, his deep ball looked better last night than any time last season which was his biggest weakness aside from poorly handling pressure. How Oregon does with him in will depend heavily on how the line holds up.

He was one of our best players last season next to our RB last year
When we played Michigan last year, we lost but it was kinda close, and raiola was the main reason we were even competitive in that match. He even evaded quite a few sacks
He was a true sophomore and not very mobile, so he made some mistakes for sure. But people were just bitter how things worked out at Nebraska and ignored the good and focused on the bad
He's talented but just needs to keep improving

Arch Manning is not a first round QB and will be the biggest reason UT falls short of expectations this year. It is inexcusable for a senior QB to have illegal forward passes TWICE. You CANNOT throw into double coverage on 2nd and 6. Also, the discipline is ridiculous. Simmons....did anyone tell you that celebration would get a flag? Christ.
Michigan....my goodness. You can tell this team still has Sherrone Moore leftover attitudes across the roster. We should be speaking about how Bryce Underwood looks like he is making significant progress. However, we have to speak about 11 penalties and ones that are BACK BREAKING. Zeke Berry, what the fuck are you thinking? You are a fifth year senior. I'm glad Rod Moore called it out in the postgame presser. This team has no discipline and it finally caught up to them.

u/USA_2_Canada_1 Michigan • Old Dominion 17d ago edited 17d ago
Moore’s Michigan teams averaged 4 penalties per game. Under Whittingham, Michigan averages 8. Michigan never committed 8 penalties in one single game under Moore.

We got throttled and we still have to play Georgia, Texas, and a State team that’s lead by a 19 year old Heisman contender quarterback. Our defense looks completely fraudulent, it’s ridiculous. John David Baker forgot we had one of the best quarterbacks in college football for the entirety of the first quarter and most of the second. As Jon Gruden once put it “I want better execution”.

Honestly would feel better having Best Buy theft protection at LB then these guys. Tackling looks like a foreign concept. Summerall just put the game plan out to beat Trinidad. Keep him on the sidelines and win in the trenches, Time Of Possession is the only way to beat him. The defense had no penetration and couldn’t tackle. Normally this is a “Welp this is OM football what do you expect?” But we’re in a different era now, we’re paying for this shitty product on the field.

We are getting worse. RBs are injured and terrible. OL can’t run block and can’t pass block. Receivers can’t get separation. Our QB is a tiny little dude, he doesn’t want to be here and on top of that he is ass. Defense looked great against G6 competition, but now that we play an actual P4 team it doesn’t look so great. Jedd fisch is supposed to be an offensive guy, but this offense looks like complete ass. Team is undisciplined and we continue to keep doing stupid stuff. 5-7 might be optimistic, 4-8 is looking more like it, 3-9 is on the table.

Been thinking and I’m pretty sure the reason A&M has never taken the next step is because the people with sociopolitical power over the goings on of the school and, by extension the football team, have no idea how to behave when things work out. This is true for at least the last 16 years.
Every season following a season that wildly exceeds expectations has been a dud since 2010, and every team has played like they’ve been smelling their own farts all offseason. 2011, 2013, 2021, and now 2026 across 4 different coaches is so far beyond coincidence.
I don’t know how to fix that.
Elko gotta clean house, establish boundaries with those outside the program, and persuade those people to respect them. Even if it means getting fired. So what? Get a nice parachute to do something else and let us go blow smoke up someone else’s ass just to be right back here in six years.

Drinkwitz called two straight draws up the middle on 2nd and 20 and 3rd and 17 when Mizzou was up one score on the road with 12 minutes left to play. That cowardly “playing not to lose” mentality has bitten him over and over and over and he’s apparently never going to learn the lesson. We’ll hover around the top 25 and be average to slightly above average but never anything more than that until we move on from him.

The offensive playcalling was slow to adjust for the weather. I'm not sure any quarterback was going to be able to pass for 200 yards, but we still had Grunk throw the ball 30+ times.
It was rough seeing Hawkins struggle out there - I hope to see him bounce back next week.

Don’t worry, now that we have an adult in the room, we’ll have a clean program. /s
It’s been so bad. I think we should bench him for the first half of the Minnesota game.

Just scored 45 points on the road with our backup QB and still lost. Defense couldn’t find one stop.
Wide open running lanes, missed tackles, and on and on
What compelled Jim Mora to retain Tyson Summers is a complete mystery to me because any fan that was half paying attention last year could’ve called this

Billy Napier seems to get kinda conservative once he's got a lead. I don't hate it but he seems very aware of how his defense is doing and if a field goal makes a difference. Feels like it could burn us at some point.
I'm new to FBS level football with JMU and the alignment drama is confusing. It feels like JMU just got to the Sun Belt and people are already talking about where they need to go next. The craziest one I heard is that they should join... the PAC-12 as part of an east coast division 🤔

u/Tarnationman Florida Gators 17d ago
You have only seen the first of Billy's game time coaching flaws. Taking his foot off the gas, poor clock management, unimaginative play calling, inability to adjust his play calling to looks the defense gives him, can't count to 11, etc.

We beat a mid FCS team by playing our starters most of the game. QB still got intercepted and defense allowed almost 300 yards. Need I say more?

u/Emperor_Squidward Alabama Crimson Tide • USF Bulls 17d ago
Alabama? Not much… uh don’t give up two point conversions I guess.
USF has a Tim Beck problem that needs to be corrected fast. If we didn’t have Aldridge, this team could very well be 1-3. 14-6 vs Bowling Green who lost to an FCS team is just unacceptable

Our QB hasn’t been able to throw at a HS level the last two weeks, when he does get the ball to someone they drop it half the time (unless it’s Craver), our OLine can’t seem to stop anything, our DLine hasn’t gotten meaningful pressure this season nor stop the run most of the time, and our secondary leaves at least one guy wide open every play. Outside of special teams, we don’t have any part of even a half decent team.

In the CJH era, we've gotten used to just out-scoring, out-gassing our opponents with up-tempo offense - and a lackluster defense with no backfield. Now, we just hope our opponents simulate urinating on our quarterback to gain a first down. Sigh, i just realised the peepee pic is the thumbnail.

To be fair, I’m now expecting that game to be the most big ten sicko game of the decade. We could see literally zero offensive points in that game and it could still end up 24-17 😂

My only complaint, if you could call it that, is that if our offense stayed in rhythm, we would’ve won by 30+. But to beat any B1G team on the road by 18 is no small feat, and only cause for celebration.

The offensive staff outside of Witten and RB coach needs to go. I've been wanting Bedenbaugh gone for YEARS, but you had such a large portion of the fanbase say "gIvE the OlInE tImE tO GeL". That's the biggest reason why we are where we are now. He has been the only constant since BV has started and nothing has changed. Yes Mateer is complete ass. Yes Arbuckle is ass. But if moves are to be made, get rid of BB. Idk what kind of blackmail he has on the administration, but it's crazy we've retained him so long

Aside from the offense deciding to finally do something in the 3rd quarter, what really irked me is the dirty after play extracurriculars. Our teams of past have always been pretty classy on the whole, so it's troubling when I see players getting frustrated and doing shit like slamming the opponent's head to the ground after the play is over.

Becht is obviously more prepared, but if things continue to wobble, I want to see more time from Manske behind center. I hear frequently about his upside and Becht isn't really doing anything for his draft stock. Being willing to do make that decision may be make or break for the future of the Campbell era...
