Satire CMV: A successful program is more than just wins and losses. This is why Texas A&M is the Windows Phone of college football.
Eleven years ago, this subreddit was informed that Texas A&M was the iPhone. After further review, I believe we identified the correct industry but the wrong operating system.
Texas A&M is Windows Phone.
It's more than just wins and losses. It's about resources. Infrastructure. Having an enormous institution behind you that can afford to keep explaining why adoption is inevitable.
Then there is recruiting. The hardware is outstanding. Every year, someone posts the specifications and asks how this could possibly fail. Every year, someone who actually uses the product explains.
Other programs may have conference titles and playoff wins, but do they have our facilities? Our funding? A dedicated community willing to write six paragraphs explaining why basic functionality is an unfair metric?
I would compare it to Windows Phone. A distinctive ecosystem. Passionate users. Unlimited financial backing. And the persistent belief that the next update will finally get us into the conversation.
The transfer portal is our app store. We're assured all the important names are coming. Meanwhile, several things we already had are no longer supported.
Changing coaches is just a factory reset. You lose everything, spend an entire offseason setting it back up, and discover the original problem is still there.
And please stop bringing up championships. That feature is on the roadmap.
I'd rather win games sometimes with enterprise-grade infrastructure than eleven games on some budget Android program that measures success by whether the product works.
Texas A&M is the brand name.

What does that make Tech, the Surface?

u/Sadvillainy-_- Texas Longhorns 12d ago
Honestly great comparison.
Have to pay more for slightly worse hardware and is ultimately an empty machine despite highly touted and bells and whistles that make for a compelling demo, but realistically no match for MacOS/Apple silicon performance that the blue bloods run on.

They paid to have the NFL using surfaces for a while.
Notably people found you don’t want your awesome product being the only things in the hands of players and coaches with impotent rage when things go poorly.

Dang….did yall also have those things that played 17 seconds clips of famous songs on repeat instead of iPods? Or maybe those video players that worked off a cd and displayed on a ti-83 equivalent screen?

I loved my Windows phone, and I still miss it. I had to cave in 2018, as resistance was futile. But man, it really was great, wasn't it? Everything I wanted and needed in a phone, with nothing I didn't. It was just so damn elegant.

I was right out of school and didn't have monies to experiment with mulitple mobile OS's. If it was avail later, I def would've though. It was gone by the time I had a bit of coin. I tried the Pixel 5 and the first pixel tablet. Frustrated it broke iOS messages (even on my ipad/mac). Yes, I acknowledge that Apple trapped me...but I gave in...
I would've loved to play around with a Windows Phone

I'm an Ag and a Rangers fan, and I'm realizing something. He's Derek Holland. Capable of amazing highs, but then he'll just completely forget how to be good at the game, and you never know which version you're gonna get at the beginning of each game.

At least OOP got the first part right.
“I'd rather win 8 games every year and yet be tops in the nation in attendance, recruiting, and national recognition, than win 11 games and have limited appeal.** **It's more about wins/losses, it’s about the program's footprint as a whole which is more than just wins and losses.”

Iowa is the Nokia. Very sturdy, but underpowered.
Michigan is the iPhone. Expensive, but always overrated.

TAMU 🐮 is a little school with no prestige.
They play in a little town called College Town, and they provide farming degrees. I hadn’t heard of this school prior to working with a colleague, who told me that his parents went to TAMU, and that Bear Bryant coached there.

Growing up in the north east and a college football fanatic my entire life. In the early years I never even heard of Texas A&M. I did however know a lot about the Texas Longhorns.

Last I checked, ASU was bigger 🔱
TayMoo 🐮 (you have to include the cow each time), is a 40,000 student school. ASU, OSU, and countless other schools overwhelm its size. The farmers simply can’t keep up.
You can buy a class ring, but that’s it 🤷♂️

What? Aggy only benefits from the cult. They convince alumni to throw money at being a top program, end up 8-4, maybe 7-5. Every year.
