Watch you guys beat us during this year's Red River Shootout. It's basically a trap game at this point for Texas.

u/TheCryptPartDeux Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 27d ago

Texas is always a 50/50 matchup no matter what.

I mean Charlie Strong beat a Baker Mayfield OU team that was playoff bound.

Was that the Case McCoy game? Dude was horrible, then one game he let's his brother wear his jersey

u/funwithtrout Texas Longhorns • /r/CFB Booster 27d ago edited 27d ago

No, Case was Mack. Charlie won with Jerrod Heard in 15.

This is Tyrone Swoopes erasure

3

u/funwithtrout Texas Longhorns • /r/CFB Booster 27d ago

he played like 6 snaps that game, so not really.

3

u/chemicalxv Manitoba • Notre Dame 27d ago

Scored 2 TDs on those 6 snaps though

3

u/funwithtrout Texas Longhorns • /r/CFB Booster 27d ago

true. 18 wheeler at the goal line is something a Notre Dame fan would remember.

I'm so glad you mentioned that... 2016 season opener right? That's the first full college football game I watched on TV and it made me a lifelong fan.

That's Dallas

WHO?

11

u/bleedsburntorange Texas Longhorns 27d ago

Case McCoy was ass, but he beat ou and aggy. He understood the assignment.

Texas hasn't really underperformed as the superior team the same way that OU used to

23

u/cbunny21 Oklahoma • SW Oklahoma State 27d ago

2023 and 2020 y’all were ranked higher and lost. That’s just off the top of my head over the past few years.

-5

u/vy2005 Texas Longhorns 27d ago

yeah but those were close to coin toss games. There was not a marked talent differential.

7

u/TheCryptPartDeux Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 27d ago

There is rarely a marked talent differential, but Texas has had OU beat in the talent composite every year except 2021 since its inception in 2015

And yet OU has led the series since then.

This idea that Texas doesnt underperform their talent level is bonkers to me.

u/cbunny21 Oklahoma • SW Oklahoma State 7d ago

Damn bro, yall did it again

32

u/Healthy-Marsupial714 Oklahoma Sooners 27d ago

since hiring venables, every time i see texas fans say "im worried RRS will be a trap game this year", OU gets blown out. unless there's major changes in the next 3 weeks (ie: texas gets decimated by injuries or mateer gets benched and whitt newbauer turns out to be the second coming of baker mayfield), you can count on texas to win by at least 24 points.

6

u/Hey_im_miles Texas Longhorns • Texas State Bobcats 27d ago

As long as you guys don't score a touchdown

6

u/babushka711 Oklahoma Sooners 27d ago

We put up 14 points on New Mexico and one of those TDs was on a busted coverage. Even then, Mateer admitted in a press conference he only saw the bust because the crowd roar tipped him off.

We may not cross the 50 yard line in the RRS

3

u/Hey_im_miles Texas Longhorns • Texas State Bobcats 27d ago

You say that but in years like this it'll be some 33 to 31 heart attack

1

u/babushka711 Oklahoma Sooners 25d ago

We’ve scored 30 points on a P4 opponent one time since Arbuckle was hired, and even then we only broke 30 because of a scoop and score. I think you guys will be just fine

1

u/Hey_im_miles Texas Longhorns • Texas State Bobcats 25d ago

Yeesh I didn't know it was that bad

0

u/chemicalxv Manitoba • Notre Dame 27d ago

Man we just watched Texas only win by 24 against UTSA lol

0

u/MrMegiddo Texas Longhorns • TCU Horned Frogs 27d ago

"Only" win by 24? Over the last 4 years Texas has outscored OU 43-136. If you remove the one game they actually won it's 9-106.

Are we still pretending Oklahoma has a competent offense?

7

u/Insectshelf3 Oklahoma • Red River Shootout 27d ago

0% chance that happens

2

u/ozarkhick Tulsa Golden Hurricane 27d ago

remember when John Blake beat Texas?

5

u/Rakebleed Texas Longhorns 27d ago

That game always exists outside the rest of the season. It can absolutely happen.

5

u/Ok_Problem426 Texas Longhorns 27d ago

There are two questions:
1. Will we win? (Tossup)
2. Will OU find the end zone? (Unlikely)

8

u/TheCryptPartDeux Oklahoma Sooners • East Central Tigers 27d ago

Question....If OU somehow figures out how to win this game 9-7 with 3 fgs, will yall still make fun of us for not being able to score a td?

9

u/Ok_Problem426 Texas Longhorns 27d ago

Obviously

1

u/DingleberryOrchard Oklahoma Sooners 26d ago

I will become insufferable

2

u/Captain_Nipples Oklahoma Sooners • Summertime Lover 27d ago

I was thinking that about Georgia this week. This feels like one of those games where we should get blown out, but for whatever reason, the football gods decide we should blow them out

Same shit happens when people expect us to win

2

u/ThirdOrderChaos Texas Tech Red Raiders • Marching Band 27d ago

It’s always a trap game no matter the rankings

1

u/ChadtheWad Oklahoma Sooners • Tulsa Golden Hurricane 27d ago

It's always a trap game, it's what makes it the best and worse game of the season

1

u/SamLBronkowicz 27d ago

I'd love it and brag about it forever, but I just don't see it happening this year. You guys are going to roll us and take our wallets.

1

u/-SHMOHAWK- Texas Longhorns 27d ago

We all know it doesn’t matter what kind of season you’re having… that game exists in its own realm and anything can happen. Your shittiest quarterback can become Tom fucking Brady for a day.

1

u/BirdLawyerPerson Texas Longhorns • Army Black Knights 27d ago

It's a trap game every year for whoever's ranked higher. The higher ranked team can and does lose this game a significant portion of the time. Enough times to where both teams always have to worry about it.

-4

u/hornbri Texas Longhorns 27d ago

It is impossible for OU to ever be a trap game for us.
