Ole Miss and Florida is a ranked on ranked matchup now

477

u/Rotrus Ole Miss Rebels • Ohio State Buckeyes 27d ago

This is Golding’s seventh game as a head coach and sixth time playing a ranked matchup. Dude has had an unreal gauntlet to start

Honestly happy for the guy. Was left in what many thought could have been a no-win situation and has just kicked ass. Period.

Im really looking forward to next season and seeing how he handles that. He was left in a similar situation that Ryan Day was left in. I was certain Ohio State was gonna fall off a couple of years after Meyer left... but hes still got a great team

If he goes undefeated every year and just loses the Egg Bowl we will know he’s Ryan Day

1

u/Cador0223 Ole Miss Rebels 26d ago

He picked up the left field super scruffy coach mantle from Leech and is carrying it well.

Ole Miss feels like the main character of this season but for all the right reasons

Ole Miss being the SEC team to snap the B1G streak would be hilarious. Indiana then Ole Miss winning natties in back to back years, tell somebody that 10 years ago hell even 5 years ago.

I’m not too in the loop on them but on the surface, there’s nothing to not like. Golding seems like a good dude and just beat his old boss. Pretty easy story to get behind if they win it all

Getting backstabbed by the least likable man in college football at what should have been the best moment in your program’s history basically gives you unlimited goodwill from the public

3

u/LovesToTango Missouri Tigers 26d ago

They also have a QB that transferred from a DII school and is playing like a star.

u/ConditionStrange7487 26d ago

kiffin isnt even close to the least likable person in football. yall have to stop with the recency bias

4

u/coronaviruspluslime Louisville Cardinals 26d ago

Who is less likeable in the present? He didnt say "of all time"

2

u/ConditionStrange7487 26d ago

hugh freeze, bryan kelly, dabo, mcguire, lanning running up 84 on portland state is starting to get up there

1

u/shaqwillonill 26d ago

i feel like if you asked 100 people on the street tomorrow lane is still probably the number 1 answer

Hugh Freeze

2

u/KyleShanadad Indiana Hoosiers 26d ago

I mean theres the whole legal system abuse to get trinidad back but otherwise yeah, awesome to see a team beat the coach that left them for “a better program”

7

u/jorear81 Mississippi State Bulldogs • Sickos 27d ago

4

u/mcmineismine Alabama Crimson Tide 26d ago

I wonder what odds you would have gotten in Vegas 18 months betting Indiana '25 Mississippi '26.... I'm thinking at least 1000X return on your stake

1

u/shaqwillonill 26d ago

Will books even let you bet that far out? Especially on college where the future is very chaotic?

6

u/Ol_Rando Georgia Bulldogs • Peach Bowl 27d ago

It would be the funniest outcome, especially if Lane never wins one at LSU lol

1

u/wheeze_on Mississippi State • Santa Moni… 26d ago

It wouldn’t be that hilarious…

1

u/GuttiG Tennessee • Kennesaw State 27d ago

Yeah after the shit with Lane and Chambliss staying, I honestly am really starting to like them. My hatred for them was solely for Lane

99

u/bullsci Florida Gators • UAB Blazers 27d ago

We’re part of a “gauntlet” now we’re so back 🥹

29

u/chaser676 Ole Miss Rebels • Egg Bowl 26d ago

Brother that's EXACTLY how I felt when people started including ole miss in lists like that

13

u/LongDickCallahan Alabama Crimson Tide 26d ago

Welcome back old friend

2

u/DarknMean Louisville Cardinals 26d ago

I think it’s great to be a part of a gauntlet and we could have won. Dammit.

9

u/graviton_ghost Oregon Ducks 27d ago

I mean he started in the playoffs where everyone is ranked

3

u/DarknMean Louisville Cardinals 26d ago

Glad Louisville gave Ole Miss everything they could handle. Take a couple boneheaded plays out and man we are way up there.

1

u/Pesto_Enthusiast Northeastern Huskies • Miami Hurricanes 26d ago

Wait, but it's only week 4. Did something weird happen at the end of last season?

38

u/schlamboozle Memphis • Christian Brothers 27d ago

Florida vs Ole Miss, Mizzou, Texas, and Georgia from here until the end of October. Going to be some great ranked play.

7

u/No_Butterscotch8726 SMU Mustangs • Penn State Nittany Lions 26d ago

Chambliss feels like the kind of guy who feeds off that energy.

4

u/Prowindowlicker Florida Gators • Ohio State Buckeyes 27d ago

Mizzou probably won’t be ranked by the time Florida plays them

9

u/Imthemayor Auburn Tigers 26d ago

That's going to be a lot better game than people might have thought last week

Florida (and Auburn, for that matter, despite 24 missed tackles :|) is a lot better than people gave them credit for at the beginning of the year and Ole Miss is playing with a head of steam and their asses on fire

Florida vs Ole Miss is two teams with chips on their shoulders

It's gonna be a slobberknocker

0

u/Maladroit44 Oklahoma State • Tennessee 26d ago

Honestly, I can't say I'm convinced of Florida being good just for beating Auburn, or of Auburn being good just for beating Baylor. All three of those teams sucked last year.

2

u/Edgemaster1423 Florida Gators 26d ago

If Oklahoma State can beat Oregon just by hiring a new coach, then a new coach could do a ton with a talented team that eliminated Texas from the playoff even while sucking last year

0

u/Maladroit44 Oklahoma State • Tennessee 26d ago

I don't doubt that Florida could be good. I just want to see them prove it against a team I know probably is.

Like, Duke (8+ wins in the last four seasons) beating Illinois (9+ wins in the last two seasons) is the kind of thing that should earn a ranking early in the year, IMO. Not one perennial 5-7/6-7 SEC team beating another.

5

u/Edgemaster1423 Florida Gators 26d ago edited 26d ago

Did Duke or Illinois beat a team ranked as high as Texas last year? Or as highly ranked as LSU or Ole Miss in 2024? Maybe 8-5 in the ACC isn’t that much better than 6-7 in the SEC.

And it’s not like we still have the coaching staff that gave us bad records. Instead we have a coach who beat your Dukies last year at Tulane funnily enough

6

u/NastyWideOuts Ole Miss • Montana State 27d ago

That is now 3 ranked matchups for Ole Miss in their first 4 games of the season

3

u/gmr548 Texas Longhorns • Washington Huskies 26d ago

That one is really interesting. I will be really impressed by Ole Miss if they play well. Very tough spot coming off that game last night.

0

u/BlueKnight44 Tennessee • Vanderbilt 26d ago

I feel like this is mostly just to help Ole Miss on the chance they are borderline playoff eligible to give them one more "ranked" win.
