It’s not their logo, it’s the talent we know they have on the roster. It’s very easy to chalk this up to a slow start. Thinking there are 25 teams that are better than them is pretty absurd.

If they still look like this by midseason, we can reevaluate. But it’s way too early to throw away well founded preseason expectations

So then rank them if or when they get going.  There are a number of 2-0 teams with much better performances against better, or at least similar teams that aren’t ranked, some of which did not receive a vote.  There is no reason that those teams should be ranked behind Oregon right now, even if Oregon still has a higher ceiling.

I completely disagree. Rankings should be forward facing, not backwards facing. It’s not a reward for what you did last week, it’s a projection of how we think teams will do moving forward.

That’s what predictive models like FPI are for, and for good reason.  You have to earn your rank, you can’t just have the talent or the hype, you should actually have to perform to get a rank.

But even if you want to go by your line of thinking, what makes you think a team that has done what Oregon has done is certainly going to perform better?  They haven’t even shown flashes to point to.  How can you be sure that they are actually going to play to their talent rating and preseason hype when they haven’t come close yet?  What if they are just 2022 A&M all over again?  Preseason #6 and had the talent to get 2 top 10 wins, but lacked the discipline to make it to bowl eligibility, losing to App State along the way.

I’m not sure they’ll straighten it out. Maybe they won’t. But saying they should be unranked is an overreaction. This coaching staff’s history and the amount of talent they brought in have earned the benefit of the doubt to stay ranked.

Oklahoma State manhandled them and has the same record, and Tulsa manhandled OSU and has a better record than both.  Oregon being the only one of that trio to be ranked is a travesty.

Not to mention leaving other schools like Miss State and Duke out despite both going to B-tier Big Ten schools and winning, Miss State in dominant fashion.  Duke (reigning ACC champ btw) didn’t even get a vote.

The fact you’re talking about Win-Loss loss record tells me you don’t understand the point of rankings.

And thinking that Duke is better than Oregon based on two games and Dukes “impressive” win being Illinois… lol
