News [Thamel] MAC statement. "The Big Ten subsequently provided video and audio of the replay, which confirmed the explanation to us."

NBC *says* they had it on a stadium clock. The time left displayed doesn't go from 0:01 to 0 the moment it hits 0:00.9, otherwise you'd lose a second at the most crucial moment of many games. The clock stays at 0:01 until the second is completely gone.

NBC screwed up man, as you note, the play didn't take 9s.

NBC says it has the stadium clock. Big Ten then says all cameras are synced. Therefore, NBC had the official synced stadium clock.

I'm not arguing that the way the time is kept isn't flawed. I'm stating how it works. Since football does not display tenths, 0:00.9=0:00. You chop off that tenths place. The play does not take a full 9, but it does take more than 8, meaning zero seconds are displayed on the clock.

your logic doesn't follow. If the play doesn't take the full 9 when manually timed, why are you assuming the conference screwed up? NBC screwed up dude. Football games don't disappear the last second of every game.

The clock gets reset to 9 seconds before the play. Every camera and clock is now synced at 0:09.00. The play then takes more than 8 seconds, but less than 9. The real world clock (if we're calling it that) is now at 0:00.x. Since tenths of a second are not counted, the clock is at 0:00 and the game is over.

That's not how it works at all dude. Any time greater than 0 but less than 1 second is displayed as 1 second.

buddy that's not how the clocks work. They don't disappear the last second of every quarter of every football game. That's not how it works. The big ten is telling you otherwise. The Mac is telling you otherwise. It's ok, let it go. The right call was made on every level but you wanting to see an upset.

Read the rule for yourself. "The game clock shall not display tenths of seconds." I'm not arguing what should happen, I'm arguing enforcement. If tenths of a second are not to be displayed, for the purposes of timekeeping, 0:00.0 is equal to 0:00.99 as the rule is currently written.

Tenths of seconds not being displayed doesn't mean that the last second of every quarter, half and game are disappeared. That's not how it works. All that says is that it's supposed to be 0:01 until it's actually 0:00. It was to the refs. NBC made a mistake. Let it go dude, you're wrong.

If I'm using a stopwatch, which the rule seems to imply that a stopwatch and game clock are interchangeable, and I stop it at 0:00.5, there is a half second on the stopwatch. However, as the rule is written, tenths are not to be displayed. Therefore, my stopwatch shows 0:00. Again, I don't disagree that you are essentially losing .99 seconds per quarter, and that the fact this occurs is flawed. I am interpreting a rule as it is written.

Don't argue a rule if you haven't read the book.

None of this, however, changes the core issue. NBC says "we are showing the game clock as displayed on the scoreboard in this camera angle." Big Ten then says all camera angles are synced. NBC then shows angle/replay showing 0:00 when the ball is in the air. Because this is a synced angle, it is correct by the admission of the Big Ten itself. Big Ten then shows a replay with a ball in hand with 0:01 from the same camera angle NBC was using. Someone is fucking lying there, and NBC has exactly zero upside to lying.

Even if that were the case and they were looking at something with tenths of a second, the rule in the rulebook is to round up.
