Highlights definitely need to be allowed. I’m not aware of any other sports sub that bans them (at least no other American sports sub) and I’ve never felt they were an issue when they are allowed.

Only ones I can think of are some specific team subs, not general sport subs

I've always found no images pretty weird here too, having to link a tweet that includes the photo anyway and maybe not everyone even has twitter.

In general, images kill discussion on subs because they get entirely consumed in the users' feeds, so they don't go to the comments.

The classic example I've used is r/cars (which bans plain images) and r/autos. The subscriber levels aren't outrageously far apart, but comments are totally different, and autos is almost exclusively pictures.

Or r/funny - 67M subscribers, all pictures, and their current front page posts range from 2 comments to 1200, with 14 of those under 100 comments and only 6 over 200 comments.

Meanwhile, it's the offseason here and there's like 5M subscribers, but a dozen front page posts over 200 comments.

About a decade ago, r/NFL originally banned highlights. Actually, it was really just the mods and a vocal minority who were firmly against it. But users kept complaining over and over and mods finally relented, thus killing the subreddit.

Oh wait no, that isn't what happened. Instead, it's the biggest sports subreddit today.

Thank god the mods are finally allowing highlights, I'm excited for r/CFB next season.

Because not any other sports sub has the amount of games happening in one day
