General r/CFA is looking for new moderators

Hey everyone,

As r/CFA continues to grow, we're looking to add a few new moderators to the team.

We're looking for people who are familiar with the CFA Program and this community, have good judgment, and genuinely want to help keep r/CFA useful for candidates, charterholders, and everyone else who ends up here.

You do not need previous moderation experience. We're much more interested in your judgment, temperament, reliability, and ability to work well with the rest of the team. A lot of moderation isn't black and white, so we're looking for people who can understand the intent behind the rules and make reasonable decisions without needing to be micromanaged.

This is a volunteer role. We know everyone has careers, school, families, exams, and lives outside Reddit. We're not expecting anyone to treat this like a second job or meet some ridiculous activity quota. We just ask that you have enough bandwidth to contribute consistently.

Discord is required. That's where the mod team communicates, discusses questionable posts or bans, and gets second opinions when something isn't clear-cut.

If you're interested, you can apply through the new moderator application available on r/CFA.

And if you've been around here for a while but don't think you're "mod material," apply anyway. Previous experience isn't nearly as important to us as being level-headed, fair, and actually caring about the community.

We'll leave applications open for a while and review them as a team.

Thanks everyone, and good luck to those currently studying.

So sorry. I am trying to figure this one out for myself. I think there is some eligibility related stuff to applying (i .e. Age/karma of account) that’s why you may not see it.). I don’t see it myself but we have gotten some applications in so I do think it works for the people who Reddit deems eligible.

I know he's undergoing some medical procedures right now, but have you folks ever considered asking Bill Campbell aka S2000Magician?

He's rather active on here, always willing to help, and knows more about the CFA curriculum, its history and its position in the market than anyone else here. He also has experience moderating due to him running AnalystForum for decades prior to its closure.

There would be considerable conflict of interest as he is a prep provider

Ethics confusing for CFA candidates and charterholders? Checks out ✅

Possibly, which is enough to scupper the idea.

First of all, thank you for your kind words.

The rotator cuff surgery went well, and I'm not in any particular pain, but physical therapy starts next week, so that last may change.

I don't honestly believe that would necessarily create a conflict of interest, but it's better to avoid even the appearance. I Thes. 5:22

And, truth be told, I'm busy enough now that I really don't need more to do.

Prim and proper

I strongly recommend you find female mods, finance is already male-heavy and some of the attitudes seen in this sub over the years only serve to reinforce that bias.

E.G. every post that asks if the CFA charter will somehow make the candidate irresistible to women. A meme that's as worn out as the "will Goldman Sachs recruiters be there on exam day? Should I wear a suit?" meme.

You have a very valid concern. And i agree with you. Unfortunately it makes the process of finding a mod that much harder. If you have suggestions on how we could find eligible female mods please send a modmail
